Re: What did you get done this weekend, 10-21-07

Pulled the dash off and peeled ready for a new skin of marine grade vinyl.. pulled the instrument cluster cleaned and painted it up a bit.. Finished gutting out a 99 cab and put the bench seat in my 67 along with new window cranks, visors, dome light, steering wheel, and seat belts and rubber mat.. Here is a pic of the guage cluster, I think it turned out ok ..

I bought a Mother's mini powerball and some aluminum polish and tried it out. It wasn't as effective as I had hoped.

I took the stock manifolds , and dizzy off my inline 250. And degreased the engine a bit. Still have a lot a of prep to do, before I throw some paint on it.

Re: What did you get done this weekend, 10-21-07

met a new member, Blue72, Travis in Longview. Called Travis and ask for a favor. He went and looked at a trailer not far from his home. Drove down 4 1/2 Hrs. bought the trailer, hustled back so I didn't get trapped on the I5 after the Seahawks game. (at least they beat St. louis) thanks again Travis.

oh, one more thing, gave my coveted "Longhorn Man" t-shirt to Travis. bragging rights to him.

I mowed the lawn and we set up all of our Halloween stuff and we went to the Apple Harvest Parade.

I have some cool pictures from the parade that I will post over on GD after I shrink them to allowable board size.

My only truck work was explaining in great detail what I want to do to the wife.

Re: What did you get done this weekend, 10-21-07

I had a really good weekend for once! I called Brad on Thursday to see what he was up to and talked him into driving up to stay a spell. We worked on his truck a good part of the day on Friday and my brother wanted to come over to hang out that night, so Brad stayed another night. He never made it on his road trip like originally planned.. (sorry Brad) Really enjoyed his company and the opportunity to work on a cool truck! Sunday I got to meet Al when he came down to pick up the trailer. AND, I'm not the bragging type, so I won't tell you how cool I am for having a Longhorn Man t-shirt...

Re: What did you get done this weekend, 10-21-07

I installed under cabinet lights as part of my kitchen remodel project (only a few details left to finish up!!!), cleaned up the yard, closed the pool, and worked on parting out the 72 C20 I bought in September. Got the engine out, doors off, back half of the frame cut off, and started to pull the front clip.

I worked on completing the mini-tub job for my 68. I got the second tub tacked together & started hammer & dollying the low spots. Still have a ways to go & then I'll finish welding it up.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Not sure if there are any how too's on the net .. but it is fairly simple.

In short I just pulled the instrument cluster..*should have taken some before and after pics* when you turn it face down there are several small bolts on the rear of the assembly.. pull all the outter ones out, that holds the whole thing together.. then you can now get to the part I painted red.. It is normally black.. And On the lens it comes out too.. I washed the lens and other parts but not the actual guages though... let em dry and to get the lens cyrstal clear.. Lay it down on a soft towel and I first hit it with Never dull Metal polish wadding and buffed it then went over it with clear coat safe rubbing compound and a soft tee shirt....

Remember that if your going to paint the actual panel like I did to get it really clean .. I used dawn dish soap and hot water to get off any waxes or oils that had built up .. if not your paint will fish eye really bad... Hope this helps...

Re: What did you get done this weekend, 10-21-07

Still on the mend from an appendectomy a couple-3 weeks ago. But Saturday I did manage to install my newly stripped and primered fenders, core support and grill on the '67. I still have some fitting and tweaking to do, but they're on and the hood shuts! Started to try and pull the gnarly dent on the bedside, but after about 2 hours of effort with very little to show for it...I tossed in the towel. Fortunately I found a bloke down the road that has a sweet '67 bed that was made into a trailer. He's had it for years and will sell it for $250. In a couple weeks when I'm fully recovered I'll go offer him a buck-seventy-five and hopefully bring it home. Whilst I had the front clip tore apart I also made a point to swap out the busted heater core for a new one.
On Sunday I pulled the carbs off my VW so I can rebuild them and get this beast runnin' and street worthy over the winter. Other than that not much else.
