Re: i thought this would be a fun topic...post your "looks" stories..
Yeah, I get the crap about how did you make a truck look like that. I get the I like you "truck" everywhere I go. I also see every car that passes me takes a long hard look. I am the only one I know of around here with a blazer so I is something people don't see a lot around here. Sometimes I dread have to buy gas becasue I know there will be someone with a bunch of questions.

Re: i thought this would be a fun topic...post your "looks" stories..
One day with the top off the blazer, some kids pull up beside us in some small convertible and look up at the wife and said," Nice......nice....truck?"
He liked it but had no idea what it was. I get the usually good comments on my truck and blazer but I was not prepared for the comments the day that we drove the wifes new car home. At least one person every stop (about 10) had to comment on how nice the car was. (See pic. of the 1966) Too bad we only drove it a week before this 17 year old girl rear ended us. Still waiting on insurance to appraise the damage.

Re: i thought this would be a fun topic...post your "looks" stories..
Alot of people think it's my husbands Blazer & comment about "letting" me drive it. When I go to the grocery store, the sack boys are always drooling over it.
Nobody around here has a clue...they call it a Bronco or comment about that looks pretty neat with the top cut off a truck. The 85 Blazer I owned before, had a banner across the windshield that read "Jeep...Its What for Dinner" so everybody called it a Jeep But most folks look at it, grin & say cool truck. We have a neighbor that told my husband "it takes a classy woman to drive an old Blazer". And best of all, when it's in the shop and we've been working on it all day, my little boy will be swinging on the roll cage & with his sweet lil smile say "Mama I like your Bucket"....that's the comments that keep me motivated & not selling it

Re: i thought this would be a fun topic...post your "looks" stories..
I'm guilty.
My blazer is still a work in progress and is not on the road at the moment. This week I passed a white blazer in Phoenix that was fixed up real nice. I couldn't help but pull a u-turn, shut off the radio, roll down the windows, and follow it. I'm glad it's not against the law to stalk a nice blazer. |

yeah I love the attention. I know it's weird but I love it when people ask me what it is, i've only had that happen with the top off but I love telling people it's a Blazer, they never believe me. I also like it when I meet other board members by them saying "Hey you should check out 67-72 chevy trucks" and of course I say, "oh yeah, i'm a member too". Fun stuff.

Re: i thought this would be a fun topic...post your "looks" stories..
I guess this is a burdon we must carry! If I want to blend in and be left alone, I drive one of our late models, but I always figure on at least one person stiking up a conversation. I have owned several 67-72 trucks, blazers, burbs, and the 70 camaro, 70 super bee, etc, etc so I am kinda used to guys reminiscing. I think it is part of the deal, I don't even bothe rtrying to correct, I just enjoy the misty eyed look most have as they remember their story. I haven't had any conversion comments, but the bronco or later model blazer thing comes up, anyways I figure we are the stewards of this hobby and we should be honored that folks dig our sickness!

Just went to Bob Evans yesterday and when we came out some dude was snapping pics of it with his camera phone and talking to his buddy about how cool it is. He asked me what year it was and complimented me on having great taste. I think he was talking about the Jimmy and not my wife but who knows

Re: i thought this would be a fun topic...post your "looks" stories..
Was driving the K5 a couple weeks ago and the dude drove up next to me in a big semi and he was giving me a major thumbs up with a big smile on his face - you could tell he really dug it.
Funny non-truck related story to tell on this - when I was in high school my dad had a 1975 MGB and that was what I usually had to drive - I hated it cause it just wasn't a guy car to me - but anyway, me and a buddy were driving it next to a grocery story and I hit the throttle a couple times and it got to bouncing - looked over into the reflection in the store glass and the dang front tires were bouncing off the ground - guess the front shocks were shot big time!

Re: i thought this would be a fun topic...post your "looks" stories..
The very 1st day I drove it home (my wife's birthday... happy Bday to me!):
We stopped to get gas and the attendant said it was kick A* He thought I chopped up a truck and said he hadn't seen anything like it before. That evening we went to grab some dinner/drinks at Houlihans and parked up front so you could see it from the outside table section. There was a huge group of 10 people or so that asked me about it, told me how awesome it was, and even took pictures of it. On the way out a lady came out to the parking lot, up to the window and told us how slick it looked. All within the first day I bought it. Out of the 15 or so people we saw that day, my wife said I was batting a 1000 with all of them! Man I tried to be as humble as possible, but couldn't help but get my head swelled a bit. Felt great and couldn't stop thanking the lord for my blessings! Now that I have had it for 2 months I have had constant comments/remarks/stares/etc for it. Not so much with my top on but on the sunny days without the top it gets way more attention.

Another story, though: Before the weather got cold and the top went on, I took my wife to a local restaurant with a sidewalk cafe. As I pulled up, I noticed a small family with a little boy that was around three or four. As I killed the engine, the boy turned to his dad and said, "I want to ride in that!" I thought, yeah, I think the same thing every day. |

Re: i thought this would be a fun topic...post your "looks" stories..
the older guys around drool all over it and shower me with stories of the 1st Gen Blazers/Jimmys that theyve owned!
ppl my age (20) just dont seem to understand and insist that its a bronco which burns me up! one of the most commonly asked questions are "hey wheres the top at" and "man you did a great job choppin that thing" i just laugh! theres a guy around town with a Scout thats close to the same color as my Jimmy. we once met at a red light and stared at each other as we passed, no head nod nothing just stared! BLAZERS AND JIMMYS ARE THE COOLEST OF THE 67-72 TRUCK BREED HANDS DOWN, MAYBE EVEN THE MOST INVENTIVE, PROGRESSIVE AND STAND ALONE TRUCK OF ALL TIME! LONG LIVE THE KING OF THE SUV!!!

Re: i thought this would be a fun topic...post your "looks" stories..
Drove Big Bad Bertha back from Port Arbor, MI and found out the gas gauge didn't work after I trade for it. (along with a multitude of other things)
On the way back every time I stopped for gas (about 250 miles) someone would ask me about it. One guy asked what year and I said a 70. He then cops an attitude and says what is it.. replied nicely a GMC Jimmy. Then about a week later at a local gas station as I'm trying to figure out where to gas is leaking out. A bunch of guys come up and start asking questions about it. Said it was a "bad ass little ride".. I was cool see people reacting like that. Can't wait to get the new version on the streets.. |

I love how there are a lot of posts that say something or other about the gas station =) We are constantly at the pumps, man our horses sure do drink!

Lots of thumbs up.
The one that kills me. "nice bronco". I tell them if they keep calling my chevy a ford we are going to have to tangle in the dirt. But I say it with a big smile. |

Re: i thought this would be a fun topic...post your "looks" stories..
When I made a parts run I had a guy ask "what year is that, an 80's something or other" When I told them its a 69 his draw dropped and shook his head and said, oh man I didn't know they made them back then.
Parts guys also do a double take when I tell them what I'm working on. Kinda makes me laugh since I've had it 10+ years and I grew up with lots of 67-72 Chevy's.

I get a positive comments everytime I'm fueling up, the best for me was at a local car show, older gentleman questioned as to how long it took to cut the top off. Got a funny look when I told him about 15 minutes.

Re: i thought this would be a fun topic...post your "looks" stories..
Great thread! Prior to dis-assembly, I only got to drive mine once (from the PO's house). I stopped to give my girl a drink (fuel) and got TONS of stares, a couple of honks and a thumbs up (and this was with the top on!). I can't wait to get my sexy girl all fixed up and back where she belongs...TOPLESS! Great inspiration here, thanks for the stories guys!
And yes...I HATE it when people say bronco/scout/jeep!!! Last edited by elzombo; 01-20-2011 at 03:19 PM. |
