It would probably be better for it if the TBI came from a 350, rather than a 305, but all the parts to make it work well are available -- maybe larger injectors and re-map the computer for the bigger motor

You can build em for as cheap as $450 for the kit from powerhouse in CA. Eagle sells a kit for about $900 with a balancer, and flex plate balanced, you need a block and heads. I will do one or two, I want to stroke and poke the 454 4-bolt main roller block I just brought home, can we say 502!

I appreciate the feedback on the tpi info for the 383! Apologies to eedgell if the post went too far off your topic.

To add info: Leonard Sparks at Chevythunder has a fantastic write up on tpi's. A link for those interested. http://www.chevythunder.com/fuel%20i...ance%20pg1.htm I suggest browsing the main page to see all of its worth.

btw This board rocks, you guys are awesome.

Not far off at all. The point of the post is to see how perfect of a fit the 383 is for 67-72 trucks. All input is welcome.

A 383 is an ideal choice for one of these trucks! The accelleration is AWESOME! IT'S THE TORQUE!!!!!!! You can run 3.08 gears, a stock converter, and tall tires to keep your cruise rpm down. Just don't put too BIG a cam in it.

Re: 383 stroker,perfect for 67-72's?

At the moment I'm personally in the mood for BBC 454's. But were I the owner of an already SBC powered truck needing an overhaul, I can bet you I'd consider only the 383 or the 406 SBC options for all of the reasons mentioned above.

Another advantage is the 383 kits are coming way down in price because they're such a popular upgrade. This makes the cost per additional CID/HP a more reasonable figure.

As far a EFI, if that's a reasonable option for you (cost and technical experience wise), I'd go that way. Driveability and economy will both be improved compared a carb.

There are three reasons I personally don't go with EFI: Setup/initial cost (most aftermarket units will cost you $2K or more); Technical experience and diagnostic tools (I'm a mechanic, not a brain surgeon + computer geek); and appearance (I just think a carb topped engine looks better than all that TPI/EFI pneuma-plumbing that hides my engine and makes it difficult to work on).

Just my 2 cents.

Re: 383 stroker,perfect for 67-72's?

Personally I think the 350 is the right motor unless you are pulling a mid-size or bigger trailer. Granted I've never HAD a stroker, but I have had a 230,250,and two 350s and I just don't see any need for more that unless it's just a matter of increased fun-factor.But then in that case you never have "enough". And all that work and expense for a .27" stroke increase? 27 extra cubes? I don't know.
