Re: Anyone else here have a beater?

Nah the mud got there because I pulled it from York Nebraska to Marquette Michigan. I used to live on a farm near York, and it had been sitting there since 2000 because it wouldnt make the trip to Charleston SC where I was stationed last. Superfluous info I know. I have owned it since 94 or 95, cant remember which, traded a 400 Pontiac core for it. Farms are usually on gravel roads, so the mud got on it before we hit the highway.

The rust is pretty bad up here. I might get some pics of my Blazer or maybe post one of my F150. They salt the roads heavily here because we get so much snow. Most years is between 200 and 300 inches, and its going to snow later today and tomorrow, at least thats what they say.

There are some super cool beaters on here!

Stationed? Are you an ex-squid also?

Here's a link to pics of my Chevelle, which I'm sad to say has only gotten worse in the 9 years I've owned it. This is about as bad as the rust gets down here.

Broken wingnut.. ex-USAF ex not by choice. The Chevelle doesnt look that bad, my GTO looks worse without the House of Krylon paint job. Bring it up, it could be fixed in a couple weeks..

IMHO Crosby has the nicest beater we have seen yet! Only one fender and the hood are a different, non shiny color, and no visible rust! Sweet truck man!

A close second place tie is Malo and xtreme80, I would love to have either of those as well.

Re: Anyone else here have a beater?

Gotcha. I was in the USN for 6 years and got out in 96.

I liked Crosby's truck also, but I'm a fan of steppers.

Low ten second Pontiac powered 79 Formula Firebird. We call it Old Ugly, because it is. Havent ran it since 04 because I got out of the AF and moved to a place that has no strips. Also it needs updated for safety, a stall, and a bunch of other things. Pics of it in my sig link.

Re: Anyone else here have a beater?

Here is a pic of my 80 from last winter.

It looks about the same now, except the front is lifted 4" (not the rear though ) and it is rolling on brand new 33" Uniroyals The other pic is of the day I got it -- Yep, it was a 2wd, and fresh from the farm!

Maybe someday I'll get to drive her again... I'm hoping to finish off the lift this winter yet, which would have the chassis totally complete. Already have a rebuilt 355 in her, with a hydro SM465 / NP241 combo (was a TH400 as a 2wd), totally overhauled the diffs and steering this summer and got a good start on my interior.

The biggest challenge still lies ahead though, I need to get her all cleaned up and painted. I wanna go back with the original paint job, right down to the pimpin' hood stripes and trim. Its looking like that'll cost me in the range of 8 - 10 grand, so I dunno when it'll happen. I guess, one step at a time!

Re: Anyone else here have a beater?

MickeyD that is a very familiar sight and its almost rusted as bad as my 88 is! The 84 F150 I used last winter for haulin firewood is almost falling off the frame, and it slipped a timing chain or something, but that one is rough but seriously cool!

Dragster I was stationed in Charleston SC for 5 years. Raced at Darlington, Jackson, Shady Side, Orangeburg, Lowcountry/Cooper River, and once at Ware Shoals. Plenty of tracks in the Carolinas, no tech inspection either.. lol. Need more 1/4 mile tracks, everything is short down there. I gotta drive 2 hours to Wisconsin, then another 4 hours just to get to a track now, or go down state to Stanton or one of the other tracks. Down state is 8+ hours and a bridge toll for each tire on the truck, trailer and race car.

Re: Anyone else here have a beater?

As you can see by the (UK setup) date stamp on that pic, it was taken in January. There's quite a bit more missing from the rear fender now and a couple more dents in it.

I'm getting another body to put on there from an 83 Diesel Sierra Classic 2WD. Hopefully I'll have all the prep work done this winter and start getting it ready for the swap come spring.

2" or 3" body lift to clear the transmission hump. A little bit of replacement sheet metal to fix the minor rust on the replacement cab, a good shot of primer and then a couple coats of half decent paint. Then I'll be looking for some 16" wheels to put on it so I can use my old Silverado's tires (that are still brand new). I'm also going to TBI it to help improve mileage and driveability.

Other than that, it's probably going to remain stock. The drivetrain has almost 350,000 miles on it so far and is showing no signs of giving up any time soon. In a year or two I might be hauling a 22' dual axle travel trailer out to Montana, so I want to make sure it's going to make it and do it in relative comfort.

Re: Anyone else here have a beater?

I live 15 miles from oburg....you should see the track now after its multimillion remodel... and a new track opened up last year right outside of orangburg in bowman. they are all over the place.. BUT orangeburg requires a tech inspection now.. kinda sucks lol. I still like dorchester track..
