Re: Need help hooking up gauge cluster with Tach

What year is the donor and what year is the current speedo? How is it not fitting?

Re: Need help hooking up gauge cluster with Tach

Ok here's the pics of how to change out the odometer on your speedo head unit to keep your actual accrued mileage accurate when swapping out from one factory speedo head to another factory speedo head.

DISCLAIMER.... This is ONLY intended for the procedure mentioned above and should not be used to "TURN BACK" your actual mileage on your vehicle. If you do so and get caught, you are on your own to suffer the consequences of your actions.

1. Remove the speedo from the housing.
Looking at the speedo from the bottom side (pic #2) you will see a small "L" shaped retaining clip on the inner left side. Using a small flat tip screwdriver, gently pry up on the top of the clip and remove it and set it aside where you won't loose it. (pic #3)
2. Slide the odometer to the left thus releasing the right side from the plastic housing. STOP HERE FOR NOW! DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REMOVE IT COMPLETELY YET AS YOU MAY DAMAGE IT.
3. Looking at the face of the speedo you will
see two(2) small screws (pic #1) Remove these and set them aside. I do not advise trying to remove the needle as you may end up snapping the shaft off in the process (Been there, Broke that Not Fun!)
4. Now with the face of the speedo loose you will have plenty of room to remove the odometer from the speedo head.
5. Be careful not to loose or damage the white lock plate (pics #4 & 5) on the backside of the odometer as this is what keeps the metal tabs in alignment and also keeps the whole odometer tight together. They tend to get fragile and brittle with age.
5. Reverse the process to reassemble everything back together. Good Luck and have fun!!!

Re: Need help hooking up gauge cluster with Tach

well as you can see in these pictures switching odometers around wont work.
the old odometer needs to have notches in the metal tabs to fit in the new speedo gauge

Ok next thing to do is to CAREFULLY remove the white retainer piece from the odometer thenyou SHOULD be able to roll each tumbler around individually while GENTLY spreading them apart from one another holding in place the left side and rolling the right side. Try that.
