Re: Broken Heart

My father in law just finished up repairing his Mercedes 300 after a little fender bender. New paint and body panels. He was out driving it for the first time since finishing it when a stoned 15 year old in a stolen car ran a red light at 50 mph and t-boned him. The car was totaled. Needless to say the 15 year old didn't have a license, much less insurance. He now pays my father in law 1 dollar a month in restitution.

I'm not saying this will happen to you, but do everything you can to get them to pay for this. Sorry to see your Burb in that shape.

Re: Broken Heart

Get ready for a blame game as the parents of the kids blame the owners of the car for making it an attractive nuisance and try to put all of the responsibility on the owners. The owners will blame the girls. The girls will plead ignorance and won't know how it happened.

I guess that our society has deteriorated into one that refuses to accept any responsibility for one's actions. It's like we can't help doing anything that we do....we're just not in control of what we do.

I hate that your ride is trashed. It's just not right. Hopefully, you will find a way to fix it or get the money that you deserve from the responsible parties. It may be that the girls, their parents and the owners of the vehicle are all responsible. Hopefully, the judgement will reimburse you for legal fees. It should, if your lawyer does his/her job. I suspect that you'll have to sue everyone who has any connection to the event, to get anything. That sucks.

Re: Broken Heart

I am so sorry for your loss. The problem with things like this is you will have to do all the "footwork" to get any compensation for your sub.
The parents of the girls are ultimately
responsible for their actions. Good luck in getting compensation for your loss.

Re: Broken Heart

Well theres a little news today. The girl that was driving spent the weekend in jail, and had to go to court today. There is list of charges about a mile long that she has against her. Her and her uncle? came over and appolagized and said that she is under house arrest/probation at least untill Dec 13 (her next court date). She said that she is going to get a job to pay for the damages. We'll see I guess.

Great news. You are probably right to be skeptical. Just get the agreement in writing when you present the estimate. I don't think she has any idea how expensive it will be.

One of the hardest things I had to do was tell a fellow camper (I was on vacation with my family when 16) that I dented his door with a baseball. We exchanged information and I said I would pay for the repairs. I saved all my lawn mowing money all summer and still haven't heard from him 23 years later. Maybe this is her turning point to maturing.

Re: Broken Heart

It may be her uncle who said she would be paying, but some adult in her life is financially responsible. It is that person who should be digging in the wallet. The courts will probably be the decider.

Re: Broken Heart

Man this is horrible! I have experienced some of this my self. In my early days I had a 55 early series I had put a ton of time and money in and had a good friend (until then) back into the drivers door killing it and the cab corner. Never got a penny out of it. I am just up the road from you in Maynardville and have some parts you might use to fix it with. PM me if you want to get together.

Re: Broken Heart

Do your best to turn a negative into a positive. She likes cars enough to race them, then she should be interested in turning a wrench as she helps you repair yours. Get the uncle in on the action, too. Getting into a hobby is exactly what people like this need.

Once this kid gets the understanding of what it takes to fix and restore the damage she created, I can bet that she will be a lot more respectful of all things mechanical.

Dont make an enemy out of this situation. Try to make a difference. It ain't easy, but taking the high road will be more rewarding if the offender is even the least bit interested in making things right. If they are NOT intrested, then you need to play the legal game and stick to your guns.

I am pretty confident that the legal route will leave you more bitter.

Wow, that really put the hit on your Burb. Sure isn't encouraging words from your body guy but I'm sure he knows what he is talking about. Sure hope the responsible parties step up and take care of this.
