Re: What size exhaust are you guys runnin?

I have a 400 sb with 350 crank and full roller valve train and alum heads, lots hps lol. I has the 1.75in headman pro comp headers going in to 3in pipes with 2.5 cross over to 30in? glass packs to turn downs at the front of the rear swing arms, sounds like a stinkin stock car, real nice! i also had a 76 c30 with 292 had a 3in mandrl system with glass pac and turn down sounded like bumble bee, then i put 5in semi tip on it lol it was real annoying and unique lol but 3in in the way to go

Re: What size exhaust are you guys runnin?

Ive had em all different ways... but that real low, throaty growl comes only with the full 3 inch setups. The welded, sealed crossover actually reduces the noise and just leaves the growl. I am anxious to meet others with our trucks and see what they sound like with the different exhaust set-ups.
There is nothing you could do to my truck to make the sound any better.
It isn't [for me] the loud- I ran the dual exhaust completely out the rear end about 3 inches past the bumper to reduce the cab noise. It is about that growl.
Please check back and let us know what you did and if you are happy with it.

Re: What size exhaust are you guys runnin?

For me,using 3" isn`t a matter of money but performance.Dual 2.5" is more than just adequate for most motors. In fact, running 3" on something with less than an awesome motor can be too much and would run better with 2.5".You can run too much pipe.Depends on if you`re going for performance or just sound.I run 2.25" on my under 300hp trucks.Over 300 gets 2.5",and 3" goes on 450+ for my uses...
Get electric cut-outs if you really want to open it up!!Talk about turning heads.

My friend has a hot Firehawk. It looks factory, but has headers, gears, drag radials,cut-outs,and more. We`ll sit at a light next to a Mutwang,or whatever, open them up and rev it,then shut them up(unless they still want to race). It`s scary!!!

Re: What size exhaust are you guys runnin?

Well i am looking for performance. I am spending alot of money doing this c5 swap and don't want to waste all my time and effort by doing something that will decrease the performance. Here is what i am thinking so far. If i keep the stock LS1 with maybe 1 or 2 upgrades I will run my exhaust in 2.5. If i can figure out what upgrades i will need and can afford the twin turbo then i will go with 3" exhaust. Either setup will use an "X" pipe. How does that sound? Thanks for all your help

Heck yeah!!!Clear them turbos out!!!Talkin`turbos changes everything. On my diesel the elbow off the turbo is 3" and jumps to 4" at the muffler. That`s single pipe.
