Re: 56 Cameo build
I put them in my truck. If I was to do over I would not put these in and make a piece that went from the floor to the cab, and a support to the bottom of the outer cab corner. Reason is this is a perfect place for rust to start... holds a lot of stuff between the inner and outer corners.

Re: 56 Cameo build
Hey, thanks for the interest. I have been working right along on the 56. I sold the 40 I had done before so I would have more time and incentive to have something to drive. The body work on the cab is 99% complete and I got the fiberglass sides blasted so we can start on them. A friend comes to my house 1 night a week and helps. I should say I help him with the body work. The rest of my time I spend trying to keep ahead of him. I have my single window kit and really appreciate the guys doing the videos on youtube. thats going to be a huge help. I changed the rear end to a 69 chevelle 62" 10 bolt so I don,t have to tub the bed or run wide spacers. I also got a LS engine and transmission from a 2007 GMC. I talked to Jesse at WaitForMe Performance and am sending the harness to him. We are putting the motor in this week. Then it goes to my other friends who will install the steering column and brakes. We can work on the bed at my place while its' gone.
I have to say thanks to all of the people on this site who have helped me in many ways and I deserve 20 lashes for NOT POSTING PICTURES! Again, thanks for the interest and I will get some pictures posted. |

Re: 56 Cameo build
I need some info on the Ls engine adapter plates. I installed the plates with a set of the origional style rubber sbc mounts and I'm about a bolt hole width off on the engine stands. I just saw an add in CC trucks for Welder Series for adapter plates and they mention urethane insulators. Whats the difference and where can I get them? Everything I read says the plates fit the origional mounts. Anybody else have this problem?

Re: 56 Cameo build
you will need to check the clearance for your tie rods when turned all the way to one side before hooking up your mounts if you use the truck pan you might have clearance problems

Re: 56 Cameo build
Thanks for the offer on the cab parts Rons 55. I made what I needed, so the cab is pretty well done.
Also thanks for the headsup on the oil pan JML55. I think we'll do as you did and pull the engine out and put the mounts where they need to be. Lots to be done yet, but I'll be glad to get back to turning wrenches instead of filling and sanding. Working on the bed right now, pictures are past due. |

Re: 56 Cameo build
I have the 5.3 also and i think i am going to be able to get away with the truck oil pan. i made my own motor mounts out of a few peices of flat stock. I raised the motor up enough to where the oil pan is a touch higher than the bottom of the crossmember. If i scrub the bottom of the crossmember, theres a good chance i will take the oil pan out. So ya just better take it real easy over the speed bumps hahaha.
In all serious-ness, this truck will have about the same clearance my '38 does. and i have yet to have a problem with anything bottoming out on it. Just watch where you drive
