This thread just helped me out quite a bit with the fact that you say the Jeep coils are the same diameter and bolt in. I can play with the other tech i know and figure a 3" lift for a trailer project i'm working on that started as a mid 60's stepside.

Not so much that are the same diameter...they pigtail on both ends

But they should have similar dia to seat in the perch?

I used C.P.P. heavy duty 4in drop in the rear. I give my truck a tow package because it may have to haul one of my old hogs (Harleys for the young folks) one of these days! lol So it needs to haul at least 1k lbs.

The coils were rear and they are not exactly the sane diameter but they do have pig tails at both ends so they fit in the retaining plates. good luck on your trailer.

Here is a pic of Heavy Duty rear coils off of my '67 compared to a new set of Jeep TJ springs. The coils are noticeably thinner. Haven't had them completely bolted in yet but they seem to drop the truck about 3 inches during test fitting. Still waiting on a new set of retainers and hardware for final installation. got the springs at a jeep shop for ten bucks apiece.

The jeep springs I used dropped my 60 over 4". I was pleased for 30 bones.

I measured 3 inches at the center of the wheelwells. Probably closer to 4 at the bumper.

Yep 4 inches is about what I got as well. You cant be puting any weavy loads in the back.

I'm a slender 340 lbs. and I could put mine to the bumpstops just by pressing down on the rear bumper, but it rode so damn good. And it was a toy, not a worktruck.
I did have a vintage 7up cooler full of tools in the bed always, and usually at least one other vintage cooler full of beverage, plus 4 lawn chairs etc.
Still rode great.

Im debating whether to stick the jeep coils I have laying here now in my 63 burb, or skip to the slam bags I have.

My gosh guys, I thought that I was the only one who ever thought of this idea using different springs. I put 93 mustang front springs in the front of my 66 and it absolutly SLAMMED it, but I did have only 15inch rims on it. I had to take them out cause the inner fender was on top of the tire! Now I have 20's. My question is, does it hurt the truck if you put different springs in from different cars? Springs have different spring loads right?

I'm running a $20 craigslist set of Jeep TJ springs with a 2" block and a 3/4" block with longer u bolts on my long bed i haven't driven much since the install so not sure about the ride yet

You can still haul beer though and that's what matters most.

The idea of a softer ride sounds kinda nice. But I do use my truck as a truck sometimes. What if I used the TJ springs in the rear with something like the Air Lift 1000 airbags inside the springs? I know your probably saying why not just go full air bagged rear but I don't want to change my ride stance I just want to be able to bring it back up to ride height with a load in it.

Any thoughts or experiences.

I've wondered the same thing myself. I'll be needing to haul my motorcycle here soon when we move, but I've already done this mod so I don't know if I can drive it up into the back of thr truck. I had a few friends stand in the bed to see how much it would hold, and from the looks of it I think it could do 500 pounds without bottoming out to badly. It'll sag pretty good, but if you take it easy I don't think it'd be to big of a problem. Only one way to find out though

Heres my old 60 with rear jeep springs. As you can see, theres alot of beef in there. Granted I wasnt going highway speeds, but it wasnt bottomed out either. Those kids rode back there for 4 hours...haha

Hi everyone. I'm new to the boards as well. I recently picked up a 69 C20 that had been sitting for about 10 years. I did the usual tune up stuff (rebuilt carb, fluids, plugs, etc, etc) and got her dialed in for daily driving. She runs great (good strong 250), but my wife kindly described her as labor inducing. The only suspension work I've done has been on my 73 CB500 cafe racer, and a buddy's RX7. I'm assuming the fundamentals are pretty much the same. Any tips to making this painless, and what would you recommend for front drop?
