Re: Our 72 build pics...
I have not posted on this thread in a while but we have made quite a bit of progress on the truck. Since I last posted, the truck was stripped down to the frame, the frame and lots of other components were powder coated, the 6.0L/4L65E were removed from the 03 SS and cleaned up, the trans was rebuilt, NP205 was rebuilt and lots of parts ordered. We are getting the body components ready for body work and paint. The motor is being test fit into the chassis and fuel lines are being installed. I will post a few pics of the progress.

Re: Our 72 build pics...
what are you going to do with the NGV-149?
as someone who's owned a truck with one....IMHO that's the best AWD transfer case available and will outperform a 4x4 in all but the roughest of off road conditons (rocks crawling, etc).

Re: Our 72 build pics...
Here are a number of pics of the build process. I will continually update the progress of this build.
68GMCCustom: I am not sure what I am going to do with the NV-149. I would like to eventually build a 2WD 67-72 truck or maybe a Suburban. I think one of those vehicles, powered by some sort of Gen III or Gen IV motor (LS3) and All Wheel Drive (AWD) would be really cool. I could save the all wheel drive system and use it for that project. I have so much left to do on this project though that I hate to start on another. |

Re: Our 72 build pics...
Here are a few more build pics. The previous were of the 6.0L being removed from the 2003 Silverado SS. These next are of the powdercoated frame being reassembled. After looking at a lot of different styles of powdercoat, I really liked the black textured look.

Re: Our 72 build pics...
I will post more pics of the build as I take them. I am going to try and carefully document the entire assembly phase for a number of reasons. Namely, so I can remember what I did and also to help others if they attempt a similar build in the future.
Next up is installing the drivetrain for the final time (hopefully), installing the fuel tank for the final time (again hopefully), routing the fuel lines which I will visually document, routing the brake lines, bending and installing the transmission lines and some other misc. The cab, bed and other body panels are going to be blasted, sanded, prepped and painted. I am looking forward to sitting the cab on the frame and getting the whole vehicle wired! I see that a lot of you have subscribed to this thread. I appreciate that!!! I know that I have gotten a lot of good ideas and have learned a lot from reading a lot of other build threads on this site. I only hope that I can contribute as well. If anyone wants to see any other pics, I would be happy to take and post them. Thanks for the interest! |

Re: Our 72 build pics...
The factory crossmember was a problem with the S&P plates, as well as a number of other options. We went with plan B and it was very successful and, in the process, opened up a lot of room around the motor. Now the headers fit with no issues, the supercharger supply lines are free and clear and the motor sits in a much better position.
Here are a few pics of the new crossmember. It is from CPP and is the LS1 swap package that we adapted for the 72. |

Re: Our 72 build pics...
When did CPP start selling that crossmember? I can't find it on their website.

Re: Our 72 build pics...
It has been a while since I last posted to this thread. We have been working on the project, alhtough not nearly as much as I would like! We are gearing up to be pretty busy with it over the past few months. Here are a few pics of the progress. The drivetrain is in, hopefully for the last time. We are getting ready for the fuel system. We test fit the cab on the chassis to check firewall clearance etc... I am starting with the body work now, welding holes, patching, etc... The Thorley headers are on and I love them. Thanks go to Jamie and Nick at Thorley for his help. Here are a few pics. I have more to come in the next few days.
