I've been a little busy.. Here's some updates.

Next order of business was to get organized


Now that I had room to work, I made this handy cab dolly so I can move it around.


Fixing the cab corners. Luckily there is real minimal rust!

I bought the paint for it. I'm going with the original blue. It's called "Dark Blue".


Here was a nice surprise when I took out the back window. (actually, my brother took out the back window.) No rust!


I've got my motor cleaned up too. It's gunna get a new water pump and fuel pump also. And of course new valve covers.

Hey Brad! Sorry it didn’t work out for you coming up last weekend! We couldn’t figure out what to do that didn’t cost money, so I just worked on the truck instead. I’m trying to keep the cost WAY down so I don’t go over my little budget. This project is going to have to come together for under $2k. I’m afraid the only way I would be able to afford your truck is if I got this one fixed up on the cheap, and then sold it for enough.. Fortunately I’ve got a good platform here and am mainly cleaning up, fixing rust and painting before I reassemble.

Ok, cab corners are done, I'm tired of sanding on the body, so time to tackle the floor rust. Doesn't look bad. I bet I can fabricate some pieces to weld in place and call 'er good..


Using scraps from the other cabs parts I have, I bet I can come up with something.


By using these two peices, and then find some flat stuff to use...


SCAHREEEWWW THAT!!! Went and bought some new stuff!

Tearing into the rocker and as I thought, it looks worse under there than it did up top. I started out using finesse so I could save as much original metal as I could. Nothing was salvageable, so I went ahead and cut it all out.

Wow...You should get one of those new complete cab floors. Im going to have to make a trip down south one of these days to check out all the cool projects down that way.

My brother went with me to buy these parts so he could get stuff to do his truck next, and luckily he bought the full pieces that go under the rocker. I didn't think I needed them, so I stole them from him.. Hopefully the guy has a couple more in stock so I can replace them for my bro! I guess they just recently started making these pieces and they are great! Those lower pcs for the inside kick panels are nice too.









I finally got smart and put a fan on the other side to blow the welding fumes and dust out of there while I was working.

Travis, Keep up the good work. I was trying to build one of my projects at the same pace as you, But I just now bought my shop radio, Maybe next month I will take it to the shop. Keep up the good work. Nice color of blue.

Be prepared once you start a build thread! It's a lot of pressure, and you'll be inclined to put a lot more money into it than you plan too!

I have to ask about the pieces you used that go under the rockers. First where did you purchase them? Second what were they called? I have been trying to source pieces like that and can only find either the floor panels or the outer rocker panels.

Hi tobihr, those are the one piece outer floor replacement pcs. They haven’t been out for very long, but they’re great! I bought these from a local dealer (DC truck parts in Vancouver, Wa) for $55 a piece. Tri-ProAutomotive sells them too.

A little update on progress so far. I ran into a problem replacing the rocker and floor pan on the drivers side because the cab was partially supported by the cab support that extends out to the A pillar when I removed the floor causing everything to sit up too high after I put it all back together. I fixed that and hung the driver's door. I have marked where the rocker needs to go now, so when I remove the door again I can install it for good. While the door is on and adjusted, I'm building up the one low spot on the cab above the door handle where the door sits out a tad farther than the cab. The rest of the door sits flush all the way down, and I guess this was acceptable when it was new but I figured I would build it up flush with the door. Besides, I flipped a coin and it landed on the side pointing to relocating the tank under the frame, so I needed to smooth over the welded in filler hole anyway. Now I need to find a lot more of those coins so I can buy a tank! I'll be asking in the truck forum a little more info..

Thanks NONHOG!! Actually, I'm moving at the pace I would anyway considering I hate not having my truck to drive. I'm getting a lot of pressure from Peanut too, cause she's used to going for a ride almost everyday after work. Tied in the bed of the Ranger just doesn't give her the same intimacy as perched right next to me.

Something else we're realling looking forward to this summer is hooking up to the camper and headin' out of Dodge for weekend adventures! Y'all think it'll look good behind my SNB? It got a lot of attention when we went on trips with the '06 Xterra, but it'll be A LOT more fun pulling the '64 camper behind the '72 Chevy!

Travis , That trailer is hot, It will look perfect behind you SNB. I really like your hubcaps on the trailer. Do you have any pics or specs on the trailer. I have a vintage trailer also, So I am a fan of them. I am waiting for you to amaze me again with your progress this weekend. What do you have planned?
