Thats over $400 in wiring for those two harnesses alone.

battery cable clamps are designed to melt when theres excessive current, so by the time you get a wrench the clamp and post will most likely be melted off anyway

I don't know Burn, I'd still carry the wrench - my truck was melting insulation like a marshmellow in a campfire - and my fusible links didn't blow! I think fire departments don't trust them either - they always seem to pry open the hoods to clip the battery cables.

luckily ive never had the need to try and get the cables off my own vehicle. i used to work at an auto parts store and ive seen lots of batterys come in with the posts completely melted off.

in this case i dot think the post would eve get hot enough to melt anyway, somthing else would probobly be severly damaged first.

i'm an elctrician and know car electronics .
i just work on my own cars and these are old ones used by several owners , when i dive under the bonnet and the dash i sometimes get the feelking these former owners have a deathwish when you see bare wires twisted together with a little tape around it scotchblocks (the little bleu cuilotine thingies wish you can use to splice wires) and loose wires caught by the steering , and those are cityfolk ............ redneck engeneering goes waay beyond that :P

The same thing happened to me once. Late one night I was replacing the battery tray under the hood. One of those jobs I thought would be a no-brainer but turned out taking longer than i planned. I called it a night and went to bed- next morning woke up, buttoned it up and went to work. At a red light, I smelled a horrible burning smell and lots of smoke. I freaked- got onto the shoulder across several lanes of traffic and threw open the hood- thinking my battery post was arcing to the hood or something...

It was a mess in there all right... smelled as bad as could-be. But it wasn't wiring. Appaerently, I left a plastic flashlight on the fender the night before. It fell off and lodged between my header and my frame.

I felt very smart...
