Re: Which engine should I get???
Get a Crate Motor or build your own, never trust someone's work that you don't know..well this is my opinion at least

Re: Which engine should I get???
I agree with piecesparts on this. The relative anonymity of ebay and Craiglist makes it easier for less than scrupulous folks to screw people over. It's like the new millenium version of a guy selling bricks in VCR boxes in an alley somewhere.
Not to say that everyone on Craiglist and eBay are scammers - I've done pretty good on both of those sites. I would not buy an engine from either, though. |

Re: Which engine should I get???
WOW!! I had something happen last night that I least expected. It’s a little off subject but at the same time pertains completely. I have been looking at getting a new motor versus beefin mine up a bit, not that it needs it, but instead just for the sake of doing it, and I was talking to my uncle about a motor that he pulled out of my cousins truck around a year ago, and how it was built. It was a custom built 350 crate motor he says turns in the high 400’s hp range all motor, no charger, no turbo, just good old American iron. And he is giving it to me. It only has 500 to 1000 miles on it. And I’m pickin it up tomorrow or Thursday. I’m not sure the specs on it but he said he has the sheet from when he bought it so when I get that info I’ll post it, and I have this strange feeling that things are bout to get dangerous.

waiting to here specs on this motor no offense to you or your uncle but every time you hear about a "built 350" every one on earth says "yup its got 400hp" dosent matter what cam what pistons that is all you ever hear. then the more you question them about it all they have is a cam and a carb, lol. once again i say no offense to you and you family. i hope the motor is all that is promised

Re: Which engine should I get???
I have the crate 350 someone else mentioned, part # 10067353. I found my best price at Summit. Scoggins-Dickey was comparable, but like you, I'm in Texas, and would have to pay tax on an engine purchase in-state.
Keep that in mind. Eight percent (approximate sales tax) of a $1500 engine will be an additional $120. My shipping was $100 from Summit. If you buy locally the tax and shipping probably even out. If you buy in-state and pay shipping, you'll pay for both. If you buy out of state, you only pay shipping. Factors to consider... BTW, I'm with Pieces Parts regarding purchasing a used engine. Everybody has a low mileage 400 hp smallblock to sell cheap. I would assume it is all a lie unless you know and trust the person or unless you get it at a price that makes it worth the gamble. Lots of people have paid good money for a low mileage 350, but got a worn out 305 or 307. Slonaker |
