From 67-69 short bed fleet and stepside sales were very very close. In '71 there was a clear shift to fleetside and in '72 fleetsides outsold stepsides almost 2:1.

i myself prefer fleet if i could i would own every incarnation of the 67-72 as i'm sure we all do. i wonder if the decline in sales of steps has to do farming. although you can fit more in the fleetside the stepside with fenders on the outside are easier to sweep grain or seed outta it. but farms got bigger and so did their trucks so not much need for light duty steppers.
