I just so happen to be one of those who has had a balencer fly off. I had a '70 nova that I bought a rebuilt 327 (small journal crank) to replace the blown 350, and I have had to look for a balancer each time it decided to imitate the wheels on the highway. I decided to buy a tap & die set, and drilled a hole in the crank. What I really needed to do was to weld and turn the crank nose, but that was not an option that I had at the time.

I do believe that the large journal cranks for the 327s were tapped out for a bolt, at least that is true on my current engine.
