Smile Re: '72 Cheyenne Super SWB BB is it worth $2800? What do you think? Pics

if you want to build a "numbers matching" truck it might be a worthwhile project. are you going to put it back 100% stock or add a few goodies to personalize it to your liking? if you are changing anything from original then i'd look for something in better condition. i bought my 72 cheyenne super 4x4 for $1200.00(i know, mine's a longbed but it was 100% stock/original) but i'm not big on "numbers matching" and i added things to my liking. if i were a purist then i'd look for a nice , low mileage original that was a good driver.
you'll have a ton of money in that one to bring it back to life again unless you do all the work yourself. for that kind of money, i'd pass and look for something else needing less rust repair and at least driveable and build to your specs.

this is my opinion and you can take it with a grain of salt since i'm a cheap S.O.B.

I'd pay that for a '72 Cheyenne Super SWB BB, in ANY condition... I may be moving to the San Antonio area someday soon. If this were to still be available then, I'd buy it in a second...

Re: '72 Cheyenne Super SWB BB is it worth $2800? What do you think? Pics

Yes most likely I am passing too much time and money needed to bring back to close to originality. My hope was to bring it back to original, and I am never hesitant to bring one back, but I would need to get it for $1,000 - $1,500 to even consider it. With my own company, two young boys, wife, mortgage, blah, blah, blah, etc... little time. Thanks again all.

Re: '72 Cheyenne Super SWB BB is it worth $2800? What do you think? Pics

reading some of these responses has made me waffle a bit on my original response.

I had a '68 Camaro that i bought for $900 that was a complete pile of crap in 1989. I sold it immediately and today, its hard to touch a first-gen Camaro with a good title in any condition for less than 6 or 7 grand.

Trucks are much easier to rstore --- heck, use a nice 7 or 8k shortbed as a parts truck for THIS truck even --- now, the ultimate value for a SWB CST BB, etc may just be 15-20k, but how about in 5 years.
Much like the big block chevelles and camaros -- they are not making any more of these

This cracker may be a little high, but screw it, you only live once

Re: '72 Cheyenne Super SWB BB is it worth $2800? What do you think? Pics

I think this would be hard to pass up, but I live a sheltered life. I would love to find a truck like this and start with a truely valuable truck. I love bone stock, and this would be agreat candidate for it. If you got the money, go for it. Does it matter what someother guy sitting behind a computer says about it? Just remember, there is probably always someone else willing to pay more. I dont think you could lose on a truck like this. Buy it, sit on it, and make some money by holding on to it. This would be a very sweet truck to have, and would most likely cause many to drool over it.

WOW...I must really be out of touch with the going rate on our trucks. Seems like our truck values are escalating upward.

I wish it was here I'd buy it in a heartbeat, you don't find 72 swb bb's with good options out there very often, I've never seen one around this area. Thats a truck thats worth the money to start with as a project if you have the money,

Some day that truck will be restored because it is an original SWB BB. If you have the time ,money and space for a project of this magnitude this is a very good candidate! If you took a photo of the glovebox label please post one for us.

Good Luck!

After all is said and done the key is.....how important is it to have a numbers matching SWB, BB, loaded Cheyenne Super truck? If the answer is very than this might be a way to go...or save your money and buy one that is in better shape. If the answer is no than look for a modified Cheyenne Super that's more to your liking. Good Luck!!

You guys are acting like there are 72 swb cheyenne supers BIG BLOCKS out there everywhere. Funny you don't see them that often. Key words ORIGINAL CHEYENNE SUPER, not one made into one

Re: '72 Cheyenne Super SWB BB is it worth $2800? What do you think? Pics

I find that you get what you pay for. I like BBs, period. Would I buy this truck? Maybe! But you can find BBs that are driveable, needing restoration, and in a lot better shape for around $10 - $15K. If restoring is what you do, $1300 difference is nothing. You will probably never recover your actual costs on a total restoration anyway. So why haggle. If you like it and you can negotiate something within the range this guy is asking he would probably come down some. But to offer him half of what he is asking is sort of an insult.

I have a lot of parts laying around my garage that are basically worthless because I don't need them (long story). But I know what I paid for them and for the most part know what they are worth. When I try selling them, I prefer to get my money back. If someone low balls me, I just say I changed my mind. Some of the stuff is worth a pretty penny, but I would rather throw it away before I give it away. I have a feeling this seller feels the same way. He's got something of value, a highly optioned 72 Cheyenne Super, BB to boot, and the person who wants it wants him to give it away. I think I might let it rot right where it's sitting, just like he is doing. Hell, the engine alone with the brackets and power steering is probably worth at least $1500 $2000. Then when you add in that it's matching numbers, the value increases, then when you add tilt steering the value increases, then when you add in he has the glove box, the value increases, etc, etc, etc,...

Last thing, you say the bed needs replacing, but you weren't very descriptive of the problem other than the terms rust and dents. Are there huge holes in the bed floor? are they smaill holes? To me rust is nothing unless it's rot or cancer. Are the dents in the bed to the tail gate and wheel wells? The one picture of the bed side doesn't look so bad. If there's not a lot of rot, the bed is probably salvegeable.

I would guess it would be a matter of how bad you want a short box, big block trk. If you look around , I would venture to guess everyone with a swb. will ask more than the buyer things its worth, I personally think its a good price, but than again I am not up close and personal with it , I dont know exactly (we) what can be saved? a few pictures and a few points of interest is all we have to go on, but even though, I would say $2800 bones, not too bad....

What it's worth to YOU is all that is relevant. The value of old cars and trucks is really only perceived value anyway. The Barrett-Jacksons of the world have made it virtually impossible for the regular joe to own their dream car or truck, imho. If you have the cash and it's what you want, go for it, otherwise, pass on it.

BINGO...we have a winner. With all that has been said...this board can give you advice and as you see our responses are all over the board. As 70STOVEBOLT said...what is it worth to you. That has to be what you base your decision on. Don't make a hasty decision but one that you can live with. In the end...how much do you want to spend? Best wishes with your decision.

If that is a numbers matching truck and all there, I would pay it easy. If not numbers matching, not worth anymore than any other SWB project. That is the holy grail and will be looking for one later this year to do. If you pass let me know, I would be interested in looking at it.

Re: '72 Cheyenne Super SWB BB is it worth $2800? What do you think? Pics

I agree with the others let it pass. NOW WHERE EXACTLY IS IT.
Really I have to agree with teeitup. Since 1991 I have looked at thousands and have owned/parted over 40 of these trucks, and I can remember seeing only one other unrestored bb Cheyenne super swb, and if it was for sale it would have been $10,000 he said. Even the two that I restored started out as lwb put on short frames.

If the vin # on the spid matches the vin tag and the w/base on the spid show 115 and you pass, please let me know. I am very interested. I am not too concerned about the engine being matching # ‘s because I have several 72 402’s and there is not really any matching # blocks on these trucks .

Thanks Jason

For $2800 I woulds have my self a new not so LOW BUCK truck but still worth it in the end if you can do the work your self. I just spent 300hrs on my truck from start to finish and if I did that to this one it would be worth alot more than what I have now with only a $2800 start up price.
