Yes, all those 'Corvette, Camaro' rally caps mount on the inside of the wheel rather than on the outside like you need. I really like those chrome caps you've shown up above for the outside mount. I'm thinking of doing this same thing and using those caps.

Im concerned the red/orange will conflict, so those are nice, but still might need to be taped and painted to match

Re: My weekend wheel refinishing project

I didn't see any mention of this but why are you using 66 hubcaps on a post-67? Why not 70's truck ralleys?

Still looking for a decent set in 6 lugs that are 15x7 and 15x8. Rally's are what I eventually want to do this same procedure with, this is kind of a test run, and its been hard to find used rallys in OK shape with the right lugs and sizing.

can anyone tell me the diff between the "orignal style" and "reproduction style" trim rings?

Im guessing the repro ones are a better design to stay stuck on or something?

Re: My weekend wheel refinishing project

Here's a link to some 16" skinny rings. The 15" versions look the same. They're usually cheap, I think I paid $30-40 for mine.

Paint was rustoleum primer, and paintscratch.com hugger orange and clear coat.

I got the trim rings and hubcaps in today:

Looking GOOD IMO, and close enough match on the color that I dont think I will repaint the hubcap centers...

Those trim rings sure do scratch up the paint a lot though, I am glad I didn't spend a fortune on that job.

Thanks man - I had my doubts going through with it too, but looking at those now, I have no regrets. Now I almost want to get the tires done tonight just to see it.

Re: My weekend wheel refinishing project

I don't blame you, and hey, thanks for the web link for the hub caps. I am getting rid of the 20's on my '67 for the same type of wheels you have painted red.....
