Your best source of information regarding trim levels would be to get your hands on a GM Restoration Packet. It should be free if you're in the US.
It doesn't get much better than that restoration packet.

first thing is not to freak out, you have a wealth of information at your fingertips here.

I can't help at all.
But I've been following this thread and all I can say is, "Liz, you are a gem."

Re: Next week I have a research paper...(updated look inside guys n give some help)

el jay, I just feel bad for Travis. It is never fun to be thrown into a paper like that unprepared, his fault or not. I know he can do it I hated school and was far from the star student, and I got a B on my paper. If I could do it, anyone can.

Travis I have been thinking about the outline, and there is no reason you can not do one. Half of it is lined out here for you, just expand upon it.

1. engine & drivetrain options
2. interior options (A/C, radios etc.)
3. exterior options (colors, Fleet side stepside)
4. trim levels & packages.

1 engine options
1a go into a general option list of engines
1b expand upon that by size or such
1c trannys
1d so forth
1e rears
1f special combos
1g wrap it up
2 interior options
2a colors
2b ac / no ac / delete plates etc
2c get the idea?
2d radios
2e see its not that hard
3 i dont miss homework
3a just try n add to it, dont expect the first outline to rock
3b rough outline, then outline, get thoughts in order

an outline is a work in progress that helps you lay out your thoughts for your paper. there is no reason with a little reading and effort you cant do one

Re: Next week I have a research paper...(updated look inside guys n give some help)

- New guy here so go easy on me.

I have a bit of experience writing papers, just finished one degree program and have just started another. I am by no means an expert, just experienced.

First off, Liz just gave you an outline and that is the hardest part. Now all you have to do is fill it all in. When you are older, married, and your wife is about to have your first born, you will name it Liz.

Ask yourself questions...why so many engine options?....color options?....what reasearch drove these options?.....Was this vehicle sold overseas and with what options? What drove the engine/body/options changes over the 67-72 chevy truck production run?

Build on the above for all sections and also what has been given previously.

Second -

Go ask your teacher if there is a specific format to follow...APA style, MLA style, who cares style. Find out and then mirror your paper to that style. It sounds difficult but really isn't. Mostly the style concerns page format, method of citing/referencing sources, title page, and abstract (a brief statement of what your paper will discuss). If you are using MLA or APA style, the title page, abstract, and reference page all count to your final page count. That's three pages, only five left to work on. Also, both MLA and APA are double spaced lines = Half the work per page - BONUS!!!!

Third - Cite sources. Use quotation marks if directly citing or if paraphrasing (cutting down the citation to fit your requirement/format) use footnotes at the page bottom as needed for further description.

Fourth - List all sources in your references or bibliography section inlcuding those that were referenced previously. If you are following a specific format (MLA/APA) this will be explained online.

Your teacher is right on the money for asking you to cite references and style specifics. If you are planning beyond mandatory school (i.e. college) this is a requirement.

If you need more info, I'll be in and out on this board.

if your trying to fill up your 10 pages worth of paper, you could even touch on the subject of trucks going overseas, what they were used for, and how our trucks were designed to be easily converted (glovebox door is the same shape as the dash panel)

I'm at school right now, but i will send you a picture of my aqua truck tonight.

maybe somebody will chime in with a 50th anniversary truck, or other rare ones.

Re: Next week I have a research paper...(updated look inside guys n give some help)

When i was in high school in 99, i did my paper on the VW bug, 2000 was the first year of the new bettle. I followed the whole WWI to new bettle. Pulled some photos off some sites and from Sema where it was still a concept.

What got me my grade and realy inpressed my history teacher, was an interview with the local VW dealership. I got a a sales rep give me the info on the upcoming release.

I was able to site it as an 'expert interview'. Very cool. Might hit the local dealership and get a sales rep with some experence. Or find a dealer in your loacal area that has been open from 67 and find what the impact and popularity was for them.

Try linking the evolution of just 67-72 to the SSR. Power, performance and styles of the times. Some ideas.

Good luck.

Another part of their story that would be cool to talk about is the various plants which produced them; which specialized in what models (subs/blazers vs. trucks, etc.); what numbers they produced, etc.

If this turns out to be a really well-written history, it would be cool to see it posted up in the FAQ section.

Good luck!

Re: Next week I have a research paper...(updated look inside guys n give some help)

Travis, this is my opinion but, maybe rather than branching out too much (you will be at it forever),
maybe do a historical paper on your year of GMC truck...

Introduce with....................
What the reader will learn...
Brief history of the Chevy/GMC '67-72's and what happened in 1970 to make your GMC unique

Expand with.................
---What market did GMC aim for that made it so special; how many sold and who bought them.
---Types and features of the stock 1970 GMC trucks plus options available (Longhorn man did
an option list on the 1967 Chevy HERE)...kinda like that but MUCH shorter.
Just pick out the cool stuff.
---Restoration, repair and modern modifications 38 years later. This would
be a great place for pictures of fixed-up GMC's!
---To personalize the project, add some of you own experiences ...
...but leave out the pole experiment.

The board members have already given you tons of subjects to touch on..

Summarize with...................
---Why these trucks are now so sought after (site the best of above)
and why you are so proud to own one.
Keep this short as your readers are probably getting tired of reading by now.
Don't forget to thank your readers for taking an interest in your subject.

Add your sources

-------------------------------------------
SPELL CHECK AND PROOFREAD EVERYTHING!!
I'm sure if you do your first efforts on your computer, that
someone here would be happy to help proof it.

Follow Liz's outline and you will not only get a
great grade but also learn a good deal too boot!!

Good luck kiddo! ET

Re: Next week I have a research paper...(updated look inside guys n give some help)

if you have a LMC catalog in the first couple pages there is some good information about hour trucks, It has to be a 67-72 catalog of coarse but it breaks a lot of stuff down like vin numbers

Have Fun

Re: Next week I have a research paper...(updated look inside guys n give some help)

When I was in high school, I wrote a research paper on 57 Chevys. It was a lot of fun to do since I was,( still am) a classic car nut.

The english teacher knew nothing about cars, however, and really couldn't have cared less.

The only thing that really mattered was that all of the requirements of a research paper were met: grammar, punctuation, proper outline, listing of all the sources, footnotes, etc. Anyway, I got an A on it

The main thing she is trying to teach you is the proper way to write a paper, something that will come in real handy, should you decide to go to college someday.

Good luck.
