Man of my own taste. Theres something about Slayer and Haggard that gets me moving too. Even the new Lamb of God and some Buck Owen's will do the trick.

Geeze, I have had my truck since Halloween of '99. Right now, it's somewhat apart (bed/front cap) at the bodyshop. I gave up and after the folks passed away, they left me with a little jingle so I am putting it into the truck. I'd have done it years ago, but the kids needed some jingle for their "emergencies" and that didn't leave any for MY needs....let alone MY wants. Wife didn't do without.....I had to take care of her. Kids moved out (all but one) before I bought the '69.

If you can't muster the "want-to" at a younger age than mine, it's gonna be a loooooooong time before you are through.

It ain't just TV's that slow us down. Life is a balancing act.....Wife, job, kids, house, lots of other stuff, then the truck.

Good luck.
I'm with you Don. Life does get in the way of our projects sometimes. I put off spending money on the truck when I could in case something else goes down or the daughter needs something or a hundred other things. I've had the mixed paint in my bedroom closet for 10 yrs now. Never opened. How bad is that? The cab and front end is primed and mostly straight. The bed is still sitting outside, rusting. I rather have a full day to spend in the shop, uninterupted, as opposed to an hour or two after a full day at work. I have to come on here *( thank you fellas for all the pictures posted here )* to see what all is being done to others trucks to keep me excited about one day cruising mine. I am thinking about buying new wheels right now, as much for motivation as anything. New parts tend to get one excited about doing something to a rig. Like you Don.
I sure do enjoy seeing what you guys have done to your own trucks. Without these forums I'm pretty sure I would have sold my project a long time ago.

Re: How do you get motivated????

I can't seem to get motivated to do much any more. I have so many projects stacked up waiting my attention I just can't seem to focus.

One reason I don't get a lot done when I work alone is I don't have a shop and the weather has been so miserable here for most of the winter.

I do however accomplish things on these trucks when I go to my son's and help him and my twin grandsons work on these old trucks.

The '71 C-10 I have I bought real cheap about a year and a half ago in a good driveable condition so I use it as my daily driver. I don't drive it very far though.

We have managed to put together three trucks in the last year. Now all they need is minor body work and painting.

It seems mine is always taking a back seat, I guess because it is my daily driver.

My son always has goals set for the work that has to be done on trucks and breaks them down into smaller goals which seems to help.

Also gathering parts first really helps to accomplish things.

Re: How do you get motivated????

Its hard for me to get motivated since all the stuff I can work on is out in a cold windy old barn. I go out there and stare at it alot.

As soon as my garage is finished at least Ill be warm when I sit and stare at it =)

Honestly though its hard for me to be motivated because my panel stuff has been at my body and paint guys for two years. No I don't have the resources to just go grab it and take it to another shop.

Next project I take up this wont happen again. Im going to do everything myself execpt for the machine work. So no matter how long it takes at least it will be me plugging away at it.

I set on the couch and watch T.V. and then when the wife comes in and starts nagging and hands me the dreaded "Honey Do List" I jump right up and head to the garage and spend some quality time with the project. It's a great bonding experiance.

Re: How do you get motivated????

I would say, help someone else with their project and spend sometime BSing with them about your projects.

Maybe when you know you have some free time. Make a list of what you would like to do to the truck in that time frame.

Re: How do you get motivated????

Imagine this:
Your truck is in an old barn, You ain´t got a heater, it´s in the middle of winter and you don´t feel like freezing your butt off.

Shut your eyes and imagine what it will look like when it is done and the reactions of the others when they say "I never thought you would get it back together and on the road"

I froze my butt off over 2 winters and now she is back on the road.
Was nice taking her for a spin again.

Re: How do you get motivated????

Okay, Believe it or not this post motivated me last night. After I posted my response I went outside and took the front doghouse off of my truck, each piece individually. Now I have nothing but a bare bones cab on a running /driving frame with mismatch tires. Now I have to finish the truck!!!!

Re: How do you get motivated????

For me it is a combo of things. I started out by putting some money into the ole 350 in the truck, new intake, carb, redid the heads. Ran great...for a couple of weeks. Now it has a rod knock. So, I changed directions. I want to know go with an injected newer truck motor. So, I start to try to save for that. Problem is saving for me. Every time I put a few pennies away for the truck, it goes to something more important, like a bill or food or some other stupid thing! LOL Money is tight with the economy sucking wind and the same bills I had when I was getting raises and bonuses. Oh well, can't complain too much, I have a nice wife, nice house, and my unfinished truck is in an enclosed garage with a concrete floor, so its not like I work outside in the dirt. I just need to save for that motor, I think once it shows up I will get motivated on everything else again.

Re: How do you get motivated????

Motivation is not the problem with me. Time is the factor here. We just had a baby two months ago, and while I'm eternally grateful to be so blessed, I just can't find time to get more than two-three hours of work at a time on my truck anymore. I know it'll get better though. Sometimes we just wonder when?

I'm maybe three solid days from having my truck back on the road again and just can't seem to make any headway in the short intervals of time I get anymore. So I truly envy anyone who has the time wether or not y'all actually make use of it. Don't get me wrong, it's your time, do with it as you please.

As far as the TV goes... If I were to just have cable for the first time ever, I might be the same way. But I have one word for ya....DVR!!!!! Greatest thing since sliced bread, IMO. You can record whatever you want with the push of a button, and watch it whenever you choose with the push of a button.

Re: How do you get motivated????

Hey Deland! I'm BAAAAACK after a couple years off.

I had put my truck in storage for the past 2.5 years and only yesterday went to bring her back home. I fired her up, the floats were stuck, so I sprayed some carb cleaner in there. That worked! She started idleing well...

So, i headed off down the road driving back to my house....

DOH, old gas FTL!!! It died and would only fire for a second (the gas is almost 3 years old) -- SO... I went home, grabbed the trailer and loaded her up.

I'm excited now again about my truck. Pulling in the driveway and seeing her sitting there, ready for me to work on is VERY exciting. Also, my sons are turning 15 next february, so i need to get her running reliablily before then (i want to teach them to drive on a 3-on the tree).

So, i would answer this question -- GETTING the old truck out of storage is what get's me MOTIVATED.
