Re: 76' C-10 Stepside resto.
So here's an update with a few pics....... (sorry if the pics are not great)
So after the thick coat of sound deadening undercoating on almost every inch on the interior of the cab, I installed a 2 step heat shield/insulation kit. Cant really see it in this pic but i also went with a spray on truck bed liner on the door jambs. After alot of prep it laid down really nice. Also ran the insulation padding on the back of the cab and in the doors. I ordered an extra roll because i knew i wanted to cover as much as i could. Then installed the carpet kit that fit perfect along with the new firewall insulation. Installed the weather stripping and polished up the trim. Still got alot to do but finally getting stuff done. Re: 76' C-10 Stepside resto.
So got home from work today and wouldnt you know it, i had a big a** box sitting in the living room. In it contained the new billet grill, a crystal clear halogen headlight upgrade with new harness, and a few trim pieces. Pics to come. Front end = Almost Complete.

Re: 76' C-10 Stepside resto.
So its a bit dirty, and dark, and i dont have my bumper yet ( which will be on order soon) But here is the front end just about complete. New grill and headlight kit. Not Bad.
Dont mind the dirty frame, dangling wire or crappy tires. Last edited by SuperNova22; 07-16-2010 at 12:52 AM. |

Re: 76' C-10 Stepside resto.
So just got home and damn, what a weekend. Yes, today is Tuesday. I took some much needed time off work for a few days so i can actually get something done on this almost decade long project. So after having to strip down certain areas of the bed, sand, prep, prep some more, and finally paint....... the bed is finally ready to go back together with the wood and all the new hardware. Picked up a new steering wheel just for kicks. And now am about to venture into the wonderful world of custom speaker box building. Things are finally looking like i might actually finish this truck, well maybe not finish but put it back together enough to drive and enjoy. Mostly because i gave myself a due date when she has to be done. Which would be in exactly 2 months. Seems like plenty of time but its coming up quick. Pics to come of the bed complete and on the truck!!!

Re: 76' C-10 Stepside resto.
So its been quite a while but its almost there. Thank God! So here is a pic of the wood installed in the bed. Kinda dusty. A lot of work and time. Its not finished yet, but for the 1st time in almost 8 years i have a complete truck....
Not too bad. The vision i've had of the bed for the last few years has finally come together. Rear fenders and steps are finally on. Steps were sprayed with Rhino Liner and then painted over the same color as the truck. Pretty cool, didn't know you could do that until the truck was at the paint shop. Wheels and tires to come very soon. Already have the 17x10 Alloys and hopefully will pick up the 285x55R17 Nitto NT 555's soon. Last edited by SuperNova22; 09-26-2010 at 10:52 PM. |

Re: 76' C-10 Stepside resto.
So I have gotten alot done lately. Interior is all back in besides the dash and looking good. Got the gauge cluster back in only to find that the wiring is alot worse than i remember. Issues everywhere i turn. Right hand front side marker does not flash with the turn signals but does light up with the headlights. Weird! The new headlights look great, saw them lite up for the first time today. Cluster also does not light up with the headlights. Tested all the bulbs, so it is a wiring problem. And now after i tore apart and fixed my tilt column and replaced the steering wheel, i cant turn the key to the start position. Goes into all other positions fine, so the column has to come all apart again, i think. Any ideas? Not sure how many members will be reading this so more than likely i will be posting my issues on another thread to hopefully get some suggestions. On a brighter note, the tailgate is back on with the poly bushings instead of solid mounts, which is really nice. Got the new windshield seal in. The new hood insulation is in with the cut outs for the cowl hood. Its awesome to have a complete truck for the 1st time in almost 8 years. But as i get closer to being done, i run into more problems. And i guess thats expected. But just a big downer.

Re: 76' C-10 Stepside resto.
I purchased a '77 stepside for me and my son to put together as a father/son thing. It's had been in storage for 14 years! He's 17 and ready for some fun. We will be watching your thread alot as it appears you have alot of our thoughts!!! I showed my wife your pics of the bed and she told me it looks better than our cabinets....our cabinets only have 5 layers of varnish!!
Beauty of a truck bro!!! Keep all the pics coming and let us know what you find. |

What brand kit did you use for the chrome strips in the bed? Really wanting to do a wood bed in mine, already got curly maple wood for it

Re: 76' C-10 Stepside resto.
Well, i do not have chrome strips on my bed. They are painted the same color as the truck (black with a red pearl). They are pretty dusty in the pic. As for where a got them, i ordered them online from ClassicParts.com . I ordered all new stainless strips and hardware, along with the wood, got it as a whole kit. You can also order chrome plated strips and hardware, costs more obviously. Worked out really great. Hardest part was finishing the wood.

Re: 76' C-10 Stepside resto.
Well then you got a head start. Having all the right tools makes the job alot easier. I didnt really mean hard, as in you need to know what your doing, which does help. I ment it as its time consuming and takes alot of effort to get it right. Which if your in the cabinet business im sure you know what i mean. Coat after coat and alot of sanding and blocking.

Re: 76' C-10 Stepside resto.
So getting the new tires tomorrow. Ended up changing my mind on the tire brand. Decided to go with the BFG G-Force T/A in 275/40-17. Gonna see how they look with the Eagle Alloy wheels i got from a friend of mine, price was right. If they dont look right then ill go with 255/50-17. Wanted wider but cant get both wide and taller sidewall in the same tire.

Re: 76' C-10 Stepside resto.
Well the tire size i wanted did not end up happening. The 275 ended up being a bit wide for the wheel and looked like a mushroom when mounted. So i ended up going with a 255/55-17. And also changed the tire because the BFG doesnt not come in that size. Decided to go with the Nitto Invo. Already got them mounted on the truck. They look great and from what i hear its an awesome tire. And the choice was made easier by a friend of mine that is a manager at tire shop. Price was way to good to pass up. Pics to come.
