That won't make a bit of difference. The price of gas is basisc supply and demand. Demand is way up and supply is bottlenecked at the refining stage. If someone found a new oil reserve that made Saudi Arabia look like a grease stain on the driveway the refineries *still* would no be making any more gas than they are now.

Also -- it takes years from initial prospecting to bring a find into full production.

Yup. Get ready for $5-6 per gallon in the next couple of years.

I've been thinking about selling the truck and boat before they're worthless or impossible to sell.

I'll keep the 67, it will just turn into a toy instead of a driver

I'd also like to add that this is not the 70's all over again. The world's production of oil has been flat for several years and production WILL start to go down, yet demand from developing countries is still going strong. We need to find an alternative to oil... and soon, or face a possible WWIII.... over oil...

Re: This is just frick'n insane !!!

Recently we traded in our low milage nice big 2004 Tahoe. We miss it. We traded it for a 2008 Honda Civic LX 4 door. Which is nice car but not a Tahoe. It's get 38 mpg at best. It My wife's daily to haul the kids around, a 9 year old boy and 4 year old girl. We all had to adjust to the loss of space but it's what we have to do in order to still afford gas. We only financed it for 2 years so when it's payed off we'll see how the market is and if it's good we may get another large SUV and I'll take the 08 Civic. But for now we will stick with these gas sippers.

I drive a 2000 Honda Civic Hatchback. It get roughly 35-40 mpg. When I bought it new in 99 it only took $10-$11 to fill it. Gas is an issue with us but not as much as others. Right now it takes me about $33 to fill it up and that will last me 400 miles, the wife's 08 Civic is the same.

My brother just picked up a 08 Hyundai Accent 3 door that get 38 mpg for around 8800.

I don't believe the US Government is going to do a thing about it, because they're all in on it. They broke up ATT because of the profits and "no confidence" BS. Now the oil companies are posting BILLIONS of dollars per quarter and no one in DC has questioned it. Hmmm there's a rat here somewhere!!

Re: This is just frick'n insane !!!

Hmmm, why I never did this math before... meh, I don't know...

For some reason I drive 15K+ miles per year. I have family in NY, jena was at UGA, and I just like to drive....

If I were to ONLY go to work and back, and almost EVERY store I could want to go to is between home and work... I would only drive 3,200 miles per year. Jena is done with vet school, so no more UGA trips!!! I hope to cut my driving down to under 10K miles this next year. That alone should save me $1,200 bucks.

Re: This is just frick'n insane !!!

The only thing the government *can* do about it is promote fuel alternatives to lower petroleum demand.

Unfortunetly -- the only thing they *will* do is hold smoke & mirror "hearings" and rob peter to pay paul (tax holidays) which on;y serves to drive the price up even more in the end.

Re: This is just frick'n insane !!!

Well, having a VP that sat on Haliburton's board and a Prez, who's dad currently sit on a board, it is hard to believe that big brother is really looking out for "OUR" interests as most of the "OURS" aren't millionairs or have the US govt to foot the bill for fuel, planes, trains, etc. I do however agree that the bottle neck in production hurts, but so does OPEC saying they will scale back production. It is really freaking me out that the world that I once thought was more or less stable (well as stable as it could be!?) has become a thin crust over the fires of h3ll!! We could very easily teeter over the edge and WWIII may not be so far off, they are killing folks in Somalia over food, how hard is it to squwint and see folks killing over $5-6/gal gas, especially if a blue collar dad can't support his family of five (my case) or more and keep food on the table, a roof over their heads, etc?!?! I am not into the fear mongering that our current cast of jokers (if you think this is political, DON"T because I don't care who the prez is, because they are all politicians, which = liars and thieves in it for themselves) is into but, reality is that it may not be too far fetched?!?!

I was watching the movie "I am legend" the biotech teacher paused it and the movie was in 2011 and in new york the gas prices were almost 7 bucks. I hope it never goes that far up especially when you don't make nothing and it feels like your working for free.

Re: This is just frick'n insane !!!

What is even scarier is that two of the three candidates running for Pres have stated that they will take the profits from those oil companies and use them the way they see fit . Govt does nothing well except National Security and defending this nation so when they say they are going to use the money in a better way , I can only cringe . The oil companies make something like 10 cents a gallon but at the current volume , it adds up . The takes on a gallon of gas are around 43 cents per gallon and they have absolutely no risk or investment at all . Tell me who really makes money on gas . I dont think GB or Chaney have a thing to do with the price of gas nor do I think they can affect it . WE NEED TO BUILD REFINERIES . Period ! That is my opinion . Frank

Re: This is just frick'n insane !!!

This is not just an issue of trying to save at the pump. Plastic production is a major drain of oil. My understanding is that one disposable diaper uses the better part of quart of oil to produce . Yes cutting consumption will help, but anything that we save, countries like China and India will be willing to consume. If anyone is interested here is a link about

Refineries are what we need, but the gov't makes it enviromentally very difficult for oil companies to set up a refinery. With all the profits the oil companies are making right now, they don't see a need to go thru all the hassel. This comes from a friend that is a chemical engineer for Chevron.

Re: This is just frick'n insane !!!

Its basically getting to the point now where having a lifestyle where you drive a lot is just too expensive. I filled up my Saturn on Tuesday and it was almost $40 bucks, then gas shot up ANOTHER 20 cents a gallon almost since then. Luckily, I take the bus to school most of the time, and just use my car to grab groceries and other things. Next time I move I'm going to try to live within 2 miles of work and ride a bike, and just use my car for other things - but not as an every day necessity.

Drilling ANWR would be a band-aid at best - there is only enough oil in the whole reserve to satisfy domestic demand for 2 years (granted that is still a LOT of oil when you look at how much we use). Plastic consumption uses a lot but plastics can also be recycled. I wonder how many barrels of oil are wasted by people throwing them away - I recycle all of my plastics although I don't use a lot.

The bottom line is that oil just isn't working out anymore, its too expensive and causes us to be too dependent on other countries and the oil companies. Kind of like an "oil famine". There is other technology out there, and the one good thing that high gas prices are going to bring is the production of more fuel-efficient vehicles like plug in hybrids, full electric vehicles (which I would be interested in owning), solar power, and nuclear power (a LOT of new plants are being built). I don't think the auto hobby will be dead, but if prices keep going up driving a classic will have to become a weekend hobby.

Re: This is just frick'n insane !!!

My job pays me $0.505 per mile if I use my car for something work related.
My car gets 30mpg, and at the expense of 3 gallons of gas, I can make enough to pay for a full tank. I just make sure I use my car enough to ensure that my job pays for all of my fuel needs.

What's stupid is that Alberta is second only to Saudia Arabia in Oil supply, but we still pay more than the US prices. And we even pay more than Ontario does even though they're on the other side of the country and we're right next door to Alberta!!
