Check the second post. It was the first thing I did. I didn't have any pic's of the install because most of my stuff hadn't come back from the deployment.

Thanks for all the support fellas.

Hopefully, the rest of the parts I ordered for the air ride will show up this week. My truck is still just chillin out in the garage with the front end up on jack stands. I need to get the bags in the front so it will be easier to load on a trailer. I'm thinking I need to start packing the house up this weekend. I know that as soon as I get my parts, I will be in the garage until I get it all installed.

Oh the life of a gearhead...

Re: Project Step Aside, 1971 SWB/Step

Well they aren't Slams but I think they will work. I have been hearing they are a little rough riding though. At least I will be able to get it on the trailer for the big move up to NC.

Re: Project Step Aside, 1971 SWB/Step

Thanks for the kind words fellas.

I think everything is going together nicely. I am having some growing pains, since this is my first air ride install.

A question I have is, when I go to tighten up my control arm shaft nuts what should I torque them to?

Another question is; is there a specific way I need to mount the compressor? Pretty much what I am wondering is, can I mount it straight off the frame rail?

Thanks in advance

Re: Project Step Aside, 1971 SWB/Step

Looks good! I can't help on the u bolt torque(I don't torque much other than engine parts). On your compressor, try to mount it as far away from the cab as you can and mount it with some kind of rubber insulator, that will cut down on the noise and vibration

Re: Project Step Aside, 1971 SWB/Step

So... I got the rear bags installed and here is how it sits now. I haven't notched the frame rail yet but you get the idea. I am happy with the way the front looks.

IMO the rear wheels look like they sit too far back in the wheel wells. Is it just me, what do you guys think?

I'm with you, they look like maybe an inch or so too far back. Not a lot you can do about it though. It still looks bad a**

Re: Project Step Aside, 1971 SWB/Step

Your truck is looking Bada$$! Reminds me of the black 69 stepper I used to have. The rear wheel does look a bit aft, but I may not have noticed if you didn't mention it. Is the bed or fenders mounted too far forward?

Re: Project Step Aside, 1971 SWB/Step

I also think the bed is mounted too far forward. Im looking at the cab/bed gap and it looks too close.

The truck looks awesome though will be killer once the frame is notched and you take the front air dam off.

I need a passenger side bed step hanger bracket. I have looked at almost all of the online dealers and I can't find one.

I was waiting for someone to ask me that. Well, it is the air lines. I had the tank and valve manifold sitting in the bed so I could pull it out of the garage. I still haven't mounted the tank, compressor, and manifold yet.

I did it. I said to heck with it and went out and bought a new welder and a plasma cutter. I don't have them hooked up yet but hopefully tomorrow I can get the extension cord I need

Miller 212 MIG, and a Spectrum 375 extreme Plasma cutter

They don't make the grey centered wheels anymore and that was a few years ago. I had my powedercoated grey in the center with a custom grey powdercoat mix. Keep up the great work!!!!!
