My antique tag was $8.00 and it never has to be renewed.

Re: How much are you paying for 67-72 truck registration?

Last time I paid registration, I paid $ 10 for the PNO, to get the truck registered back on the road it is $ 57.00 first time I registered the truck, it was $ 36 and kept going up each year... Which is weird because new cars and trucks go down each year while older ones keep going up. That is California aka Kalifornia!

Re: How much are you paying for 67-72 truck registration?

I think SC charges $20 every two years for plate fees and you have to pay a vehicle tax every year. It depreciates as the vehicle gets older.

Examples:

67 C-10 is $37/year

00 Z71 is down to about $200/year

05 Tacoma is down to $350/year

Re: How much are you paying for 67-72 truck registration?

I just renewed the registration on my '69 C-20 and it was $133.
I used to have to take my old '72 C-20 to the scales in addition to registration fees.

Does your DMV charge the same for SUVs,which are in the same GVW class and have a higher net weight?
Out here in CA, we pay the sales tax on the selling price (value) of the vehicle. Subsequent to that, registration fees are based on the value. Weight fees are also added for trucks.
For example, if you buy a private party vehicle for $3000 but can conspire to get a bill of sale for $500; the $500 is what your sales tax and later registration fees are based on.
This results in lower registration fees in the following years, to a lower limit.

I hope that made sense.

SUV's are considered station wagons (autos) out here.

I hope that made sense.

Arewe comparing historic fees or daily driver fees?It would be interseting to gain some accurate info if we could all get on the same page.Historic is cheaper AND restricted.

Re: How much are you paying for 67-72 truck registration?

Arkansas has a healthy state income tax, because of that we pay less for other things, like license and registration (like I said, my permanent antique tag was $8). In states that have no or lower income tax, you pay more for other things. I learned that when I lived in Texas, and my truck registration was outragious, but I had NO state income tax to pay.

One way or another, they get the money out of you.

Re: How much are you paying for 67-72 truck registration?

For me it's normally been about $54, plus this year for the first time I've had to pay a $32 weight class fee. Years ago the cost of the tags used to be based on the value of the vehicle. At one time I paid $16... but that was the lowest I've ever paid.

Re: How much are you paying for 67-72 truck registration?

Are you guys with historic plates able to drive them all the time? Here in michigan if you get a historic plate they have a restriction that basically says you are only to drive it to and from car shows.

from our state web site-
A Historical vehicle must be:
• 26 or more years old.
• Owned solely as a collector’s item
• Used only for events such as historical club activities, parades, and car shows.
Note: A designated historical vehicle cannot be used for routine transportation.

Re: How much are you paying for 67-72 truck registration?

I hate CALIFORNIA because of their BS on vehicle registration...

I pay $49 for my Accord because Im military and not a California resident...but then I have to pay $257 for my Avalanche....because CALIFORNIA says ALL trucks are commercial vehicles.....unless you have a camper, and when they say camper, they mean camper like you can live in. I hear some people get away with regular camper shells but my DMV guy was a JERK OFF!! Ok maybe that's a lil harsh.....how bout a jerk! He said but I could use my truck for commercial reasons and there for they had to "tax" me for it..

ummm I had to take him outside for him to INSPECT my truck so I tried to explain my Avalanche comes with a cover from the factor and with the size of the bed and the angled piece on the back of the truck, it wasnt possible to put a camper or use for commercial purposes for that matter

either way, he just gave me the look and said "that'll be $257" ohhh not to mention the pain in the arse of finding somewhere to weigh my truck, oh and of course they got $20 for doing it..

ughhh, seem like Im pissed.....it's because I just went through this last week!

BUT on a happier note! Im pulling my truck outta the garage here soon and it was worrying me how much I was gonna have to pay....Im glad to see it looks like it'll be under $100.

Well, Sir, you do not have the great good fortune to be familiar with the way things are done in the Republik of Kalifornia!!

We are not only graced with a significant tax on vehicle tags... but also a substantial income tax, a healthy sales tax, decently high fuel tax, and for those not under Prop. 13, a sizable property tax! And I probably missed some. Our wonderful legislators never met a tax (or a tax hike) they didn't like. If a little is good, a lot must surely be better.
