Re: I killed Bambi....
Never can tell where a deer is going to go.
Rancher friend of mine was on a motorcycle checking his cows, a deer ran out of the woods and flattened him and the bike. Broke his leg, he had to ride home that way. He was always begging us to come hunt his property after that. Last week, my brother saw one on the side of the hwy and slowed thinking it would run in front of him, as he got even with it, it took off and creamed his front fender and door. |

Re: I killed Bambi....
Well the '69 chevy is gonna be getting restored soon. My neighbor is an autobodyman that works outta his own shop. Mostly works on older vehicles. He's gonna be redoing the entire truck for me for about $10,000. Parts are about $3000 and labor will be about $7000.
My insurance company is covering the costs to fix the damages as per the damage appraisal, which was estimated at $4000. So I'm gonna be paying $6000 outta my own pocket. I figure now would be a good time to re-do it again. It's been 6 years. If I'm lucky...I might be able to have it back on the road for a bit toward the end of this summer...If not, guess I'll just have to wait till next spring. I'm hoping

Re: I killed Bambi....
WOW! The truck looks pretty damn good to have to redo the entire thing...what are the other issues? From the pictures it seems as though you're looking at a new windshield, hood, left fender, grill and some paint.
Dont want to kick a dead horse...I didnt read the whole thread. Glad you're ok!

Re: I killed Bambi....
For parts I'm getting a windshield, front grill, driver & passenger front fenders, driver & passenger doors, driver side mirror, cowl induction hood (love the look of them on these trucks), rear roll pan (like the look of these also - to replace my bent chrome rear bumper - somebody had backed up into it a while back in a parking lot and ran), cab supports, and rear cab corners. My doors are rusted pretty bad on the inside, it's starting to come through on the bottom. My cab supports and rear cab corners are also rusted pretty bad and bubbling. The entire bed is still gonna be original and is in good condition. The truck was originally done all by myself 6 years ago. There are scratches and some dents in the paint from being a daily driver.
But now I have the money to get it re-done professionally. In the end I'll have a brand new truck, which will look better than every other new truck on the road and cost a lot less!! Next summer I'll be going to a lot more car shows and I plan on entering the '69 in all of them because it'll be more "show 'n' shine worthy".

Re: I killed Bambi....
So my '69 Chevy is supposedly in pieces....lol....taked to the guy working on it for me yesterday morning. All the parts are ordered for it. I'm paying him $3300 for parts for now. I'm picking up my '69 front grill with the "CHEVROLET" lettering tomorrow (another $1000!!). He picked up the paint for it as well. He said he should be done around the end of August. So I'll still be able to go cruising in it for about a month till I gotta park it again for the winter!!

Re: I killed Bambi....
Drove out to Chester's place to take a look at my truck last night. Man does it look good!! It's a little bit darker blue, but it still has the metallic sparkles in it, and it's shiny as hell because he clear coated the whole truck too. He did the firewall, the interior, he did everything. Just had a few minor things I called and talked to him about this morning (touching up the rad support in black & painting the door latches in black). He's also gonna rock guard the underside of the front and rear fender wells. He said he'll be done the '69 later this week and he'll do up a receipt for me for everything....So insurance can reimburse me what they owe me for the damages.
I plan on getting another appraisal done next week or sometime soon as well. Cause after this the value of it's gonna go up. So I might be able to drive it by this weekend!!

Re: I killed Bambi....
You know what man, it sucks what happened, but in reality it is just a truck, you will be able to fix it, and look at it this way, if your insurance covers it, now is your chance to fix anything that has been bugging you with the truck.
The important thing is you are alive and healthy, you can always get another truck, but you lose your health, more often than not you will never get it back. Good luck getting it all sorted out.

Re: I killed Bambi....
Guess what I picked up on Sunday morning....My completely restored '69 chevy!!!
OMG!!! Does it look amazing!!! And man do I ever miss it!!! LOL Ended up costing me $12,000 for everything, but I'm gonna be talking with my insurance company this week. I should be getting reimbursed about $4500 for the damages the deer caused a few months ago.
