The stock Quadrajet on my '72 Nova got ~2mpg better than the Holley Spread-bore (650cfm) I put on it for a while, even after leaning the Holley primaries to the point of surging. Not to mention having better throttle response and low-end power. It's not just the primary size that makes the difference. The Q-jet has an extra booster venturi in the primary that makes it atomize fuel better than any other carb.

try a 327 700r and a 308gear thats what i thought about doing that should cover you like a fat lady on a marble
