I saw the rivets too. They looked pretty good to me. The guy and his wife left early and I caught them just as they were leaving and said goodbye but I don't remember the name....

Re: This part fell off my truck, tips for reattaching?!

i have titled, registered, inspected 3 vehicles here in Missouri(two where 67-72s), and they haven't even so much as looked at the vins more than to get the number off of it. And on the two trucks they just asked me to tell them the vin. So im going to go with if your dmvs guys are asses, better do it right. Otherwise 1.96 rivits it is

A question on the same subject but a bit off topic. When you guys strip your cabs, whether it be by blasting or chemically stripping it, do you remove your VIN plate to keep from damaging it?

I had mine soda blasted and took the two tags off. I put them back on with aluminum rivets that we use on our dirt track car. It looks kind of like it I stole it and replaced the tags, but I figure posession is 9/10's of the law, so it must be mine.

Re: This part fell off my truck, tips for reattaching?!

Trim the back of the rivets carefully (saving the factory heads and the part that exxtends through the plate. Next take a good urethane windhield caulk and set the plate back onto your door jamb, along with the old rivets still in the plate. Make the adhesive thin, so that it sticks but does not hold the plate out from the panel. Of course, I never have done this, and this entry will self destruct in i5 seconds after you read it.

I purchased some new rivets on Evil Bay, but that outlet has been closed.

Just my 2 cents

Here in Texas they don't even look at the vehicle, they just want their money. The only thing I have seen them bust people's balls about is lying on the sales price to pay less sales tax. They did that crap to me when I applied to change the title on my Z28 from my dad's name to mine. They said I had to pay presumptive value, but we decided to "gift" it so I paid $10.

Top of the left front frame rail. Kind of between the steering box and the control arm.

Re: This part fell off my truck, tips for reattaching?!

My experience is that the DMV inspectors (at least here in CT) dont know the difference between the right 37 yr old rivit and the wrong one. I wouldnt worry, but thats me.
