See Steve's C/20 Highlander above? This is an example of exceptions to the package. This truck was ordered with stainless camper mirrors which deleted the below-eye mirrors from the package. Basically,you could order the package,then negate the savings (or part of it) by replacing an included option with another. I had a 4spd K/20 Highlander with tilt and air. So,a truck like that could either be an A package with air and tilt as individual options or a C package with standard 4spd rather than automatic. The latter may have ended up about even on price but the buyer preferred a 4spd. It also was a Custom Camper with the stainless camper mirror option.
