Re: anyone got a STRAIGHT AXLE GASSER STYLE TRUCK

I haven't seen any 67-72 truck gassers but I always liked this Willys. It was owned by the Grove brothers out of Fort Dodge, Iowa. Picture was taken in the early 60's at the Des Moines Dragway. Ya gotta love the trailer!! LockDoc

Re: anyone got a STRAIGHT AXLE GASSER STYLE TRUCK
The Henry J was an American automobile built by Kaiser-Frazer Corporation and named after its chairman, Henry J. Kaiser.
Production of six cylinder models began in July, 1950, and four cylinder production started shortly after Labor Day, 1950. Official public introduction was September 28, 1950. The car was the brainchild of Henry J. Kaiser, who sought to increase sales of his Kaiser automotive line by adding a car that could be built inexpensively and thus affordable for the average American in the same vein that Henry Ford produced the Model T.

Re: anyone got a STRAIGHT AXLE GASSER STYLE TRUCK
Not that I'm smart or anything but the easyiest way to build a truck gasser would be to start with a 4x4 and remove the front axle and replace it with a 59-66 ford axle since that's like the only truck wide enough with a straight axle that would be wide enough to look right on a 67-72 chevy. The pad mounts are almost the same u would have to elongate the front holes on the axle pad to flip the axle to get that nose up look or use 4x4 lift springs. Simple crossover steering setup remove transfercase and inner fender wells and bam add some headers a 14 bolt from a 1 ton some wide rear and skinny fronts and u got a gasser. U can get a nice disk brake setup for the 59-66 ford axle from speedway and let's see what else... O ya I gotta 86 c-10 I wanna do this too but I'm worried the old time purists would call me a poser lol. I've built some quality gassers including a 64 ford pickup and they are very akward and hard to drive on the street. So u need another truck and a trailer before u decide to build one!!!! Lol. I forgot to add to the list a 632bbc with alky injection a 1471blower and a 4 speed. O ya and ladder bars don't for get the ladder bars.

Re: anyone got a STRAIGHT AXLE GASSER STYLE TRUCK
Gasser's were the shiznits, in the Late 50's and through the 60's. My ex-brother in law had a '55 Bel Air 2-dr sedan, that he bought in '67 with a stock suspension but a 421 Pontiac/4-speed. When he sold it in '74, it had radiused rear wheel wells, a solid front axle, 4.88 gears, no front brakes and a paint job that was pure early Seventies. Remember (for you older guys) the "Never ending lines" style? That Poncho had also been punched and stroked and was no where near safe for the street. So, he sold it to a couple of brothers from the Munsey (toaster) family. Don't know what happened to it, after that. Wish I had a pic.
Chevy II's were also popular, especially the '62-65's. And, to whoever posted the Flintstone Flyer.....kudos for the memories. The '50 Plymouth that was in the truck rag was preceeded by the first car that the Ramchargers built, but in the same style. Nice memories. I love it.

Re: anyone got a STRAIGHT AXLE GASSER STYLE TRUCK
Thanks! That green/white '55 has close to the same attitude that the BIL's had. He had a 'glass flip-front cap, doors and trunk lid, and some seriously big meats out west. I wanna say he had some spindle-mount wheels up front, which was part of the reason for no brakes. Yet, it was licensed for the street
Here's the recreation of High and Mighty...the '49 that was built in '59. It looks like I remember. I think the orange one is built to conform to todays' race rules but still be reminiscent of the heritage that exists.

Re: anyone got a STRAIGHT AXLE GASSER STYLE TRUCK
Badass truck!!! Straight axles weren't an absolute mandate on gassers, either.
