Re: Rare parts?

Well, if you can find the engine and the divorced transfercase out of one of those cor-orange ambulances, you'd have something that's pretty rare.

Re: Rare parts?

okay, I'll bite. Heater delete plates, manual tilt column, seatbelts that are leftovers from the vettes and installed in the truck, speed warning dash, radio delete cowl, shoulder belts, big block towers, 6 cylinder power steering, ram assist power steering from 67's, buddy buckets, no armrest door panels, and a few others I'm sure i've forgotten.

NO ARM REST DOOR PANELS??? Like the steel ones off a 67? How rare are those? Not trying to be sarcastic, just wondering.

Re: Rare parts?

Just to defend the guy and the main reason I opened this thread up...I think what he's asking is "what parts would you go to a junk yard and look around and say 'holy$hit, I can't believe I just found that!!!!!'"

Kinda an interesting question if you actually THINK about what the guy is asking, instead of spitting out a list of general items people pull off these trucks to resale.

So to rephrase his Q... What would you consider a MAJOR find on a junkyard trip?

Since the word "rare" has multiple meanings, and one of them is "seldom occurring or found," and my past 10-constant years scouring the wrecking yards for 67-72 Chevy truck items, I can personally vouch that the parts Its70 listed do indeed qualify as "rare."

Aftermarket is not OEM. For those of us who are hell-bent on collecting only OEM parts, we know the true rarity of such mentioned parts.

I actually THOUGHT about it and, sorry, can`t see the interpretation.Good sheetmetal is great to find and prefered over repro. Not rare options, but usable and removable.Words in print can come across the wrong way,as we all know. But,when words aren`t there...
That 1st list that was spit out was a very good list of what we seek in junkyards whether we need them or not knowing they are sought after and valuble to many.
My reply to this question is just go to a junkyard and when you see parts on trucks that you rarely see, then they`d be rare. You`ll know when you see it.That`s how it all started. The more you know about these trucks the more rare parts will stand out to you.Get to know these trucks and the rest will fall in place.I never had a place to go and learn other than the trucks themselves.

Re: Rare parts?

The original blazer doors without windows and with the fiberglass door cover. Overdrive 3 speed transmission. Original and correct tissue holder that mounts under the dash. Shoulder belts for the rear seat of a blazer! Blazer with just the drivers seat with no holes in the floor for the passenger or rear seat.
Most of the other "rare" items I have in my barn so they can't be too rare! hehehehe

Re: Rare parts?

Well seeing as how none of you thought about what I had replied I will say this. I.E. I asked for satin paint, a guy said add a little gloss to flat paint or something to that effect. I already knew that so I told him no.

I had said in this thread that some of those parts arent rare. I mean that not everything is reproduced aftermarket, so what isnt is very rare/valuable. Now would someone like to tell me some of those things without misinterpreting everything I have said. Thank you.

Different tone? I have a very calm tone right now. I was basically saying that I want to know what parts are rare and not very easily found etc. Jeeze.

Re: Rare parts?

The reverse light pig-tale is difficult to find part in my area. I could only find aftermarket at one store and it was on back order. I finally found them at a junk yard after about a year of looking.

and see thats the thing..people have listed tons of great things, that are hard to find even if they are made aftermarket you cant beat original..id buy original over anything aftermarket..and being these trucks are rotting back to the earth anything on these trucks are rare, some being more rare than others. You cant ask a generalized question and then expect to dissect what people say and say yes or no to what your opinion to what is rare/valuable or whatnot..i mean it almost sounds to me that u want to find the most rare valuable parts then sell em off for a quick buck...i hope thats not ur intentions..its just the way you come off by criticizing people

That is the tone he was talking about. Such a pattern here. Every thread including this one you've asked a question, gotten multiple answers, and for some reason insist on disagreeing w/the people who are helping you. People are giving you the correct answers. If you already know the answers, then why even post?? If you don't know the answers, but insist on arguing w/people that answer your question, why don't you do your own legwork.

I'll get off my now, but this board needs trolls like the Mississippi needs water.
