Re: How much you got in that thing?
I have got $50.00 in mine and another 50 and another 50 and another 50 and another 50---get the picture? It is not the cost but what you want that is important.
My paint and body work was a good investment, so was the dollars spent on each and every engine that I put in the truck. I quit counting at the point that I doubled my investment on the original truck purchase price. Last edited by piecesparts; 07-24-2008 at 07:32 AM. |

Some of my neighbors HATE me...I live in an apartment complex and i used to pull my truck up right in front of my garage...then people started whining about me blocking the drive (BS! my buddies dully could get past with no problems!) and i got a nasty gram from the front office. Now i have to park next to them and run two extension cords to get power when i need it. One good thing came of it, where i work now is under a big ass shade tree, so i no longer have a red neck. (or maybe i still do?)

Re: How much you got in that thing?
Well said. I would be embarrassed to even say how much I have in mine after multiple engines, transmissions, and bodyshops doing more harm than good.

Re: How much you got in that thing?
$5K in the 87, about $3K in the 79, and about $1200 in the 72 project. Most of the 87 was the purchase price, it came with a BOSS V-plow, then I sunk 1500 into interior replacement, floor pans, etc. It still has hardly any reverse, a leaking intake gasket (coolant), and the body looks like hell. The 79 still needs a rear bumper, paint, and something other than the Street Avenger carb (on it) I can't get adjusted right. The 72, well, that's all on hold right now.

Re: How much you got in that thing?
I have 4 old trucks right now . I paid good money for at least two of them and the other two still were not cheap . I have way too much invested . On the other hand , I could sell all four of mine and might possibly be able to buy a truck that is built to the level of quality of Ken's Black 77 .

Re: How much you got in that thing?
I don't think you can buy a truck of that level. You have to build a truck of that level.

I do not this this question should be asked nor answered.
However, you must put it into perspective. The entertainment and fun working and or driving them are well worth it.

Re: How much you got in that thing?
What an inspirational thread!
I'm fired up... I wanna go buy something for the lowrider! One day recently, I asked my wife of 25 years to take care of paying the bills. OOPs! - she saw all the receipts! She's a good sport though. The only thing she said was, "You could be doing worse things with the money"! Time for some more over-time. Kenny

Re: How much you got in that thing?
I have spent probably double or triple what it is worth, and it still looks like just another old pickup...

Re: How much you got in that thing?
I paid 3495 for the truck with a blown head gasget, but the rest of the truck was a cream puff, quite rare for a rust belt truck. I have $5000 in the engine replacement and a bit in the extras I added. Mike

Re: How much you got in that thing?
I am actually surprised that someone would ask something like that? Seriously, unless you would bring it up, displaying your bargin skills or something....why would someone ask that, expecting a real answer?

Re: How much you got in that thing?
Well lets see, I bought it for a G, Put a bunch of money into the new motor and suspension rebiuld 8 years ago. Drove it for 2 years and sold it for $1500. Bought it back 4 months later for $500 same condition few more miles. Since then it got Lowered 6" up front 9" out back, new wheels and tires, exhaust, front clip, doors, floor pans, rockers, cab supports, body mounts, custom raised bed floor, tailgate, not to mention the stuff I have but haven't put on yet and all the hardware for everything to go on nicely.
No idea how much I've got in it, don't care. I enjoy drivin my junkie ol' truck. I know how much $ I'd let it go for. Hows that sound? |

Re: How much you got in that thing?
More than I care to know...
I've been dreaming about my engine bay for a while not and I think I pretty much have the picture of what I want. Problem is, it's probably going to cost me close to $10k. That's if I don't get a Dropmember either... Then there's my stereo... Yeah, that beast... *sigh* For those who are wondering, no, I do not have plans to bag the truck. Never have, never will. Realistically, probably somewhere around $12k...
