1902- Max Grabowsky founds Rapid Motor Vehicle Co. to build one Cylinder trucks

But it shows in the brochure that I have that he founded Rapid Motor Vehicle

Did he have another name for the company or is GM trying to fudge up the words or what?

The Grabowski Motor Co. was what he had told me. Thanks for the links to the info. I like finding out these little known facts. At the time of the post I had forgotten about the many niknames

I wouldn't doubt it if GM put their spin on GMC.

By the way, If my B.S. detector worked, I would come back here as often.

Sounds like your BS detector wasn't working properly. Lotsa smoke there, I wouldn't return.

GOT MORE CASH~! That is what mine ask me every day. Go to the gas pump " Got More Cash " . Go to the car wash " Got More Cash " . Go to the parts store " Got More Cash " . Get a new Summit/Jugs/Truck catalogue " Got More Cash " . Back off the drive way " Got More Cash " . Go to the tire store " Got More Cash " . Go to the Mechanic " Got More Cash " . and on and on and on~! This is without a doubt what GMC stands for

judging by the 100 year of history thing, it was only coincidence that it used to be Grabowsky Motors Company, GMC stands for General Motors Company because, Grabowsky changed the name to Rapid Motor Vehicle by the time GM came in. Just my .02 from what I read

Every link I can find on the subject shows "General Motors Truck Compay". Seems really strange that they just decided to omit the "T". Maybe because GMC just flows easier than GMTC or GMT.

When I was a kid my Dad had a 72 GMC 4x4 2500 and he always said GMC stood for Great Mountain Climber.

Re: What does GMC stand for?

Government Model Chevrolet -- from when the news came out that the Pentagon was paying $500 or more for toilet seats, when they were $15 at the hardware store. An allusion to GMC's higher sticker price.

Re: What does GMC stand for?

Stainless steel splash shields on submarines are not the same thing as regular toilet seats. Cheaper than having to drydock a nuclear sub for corrosion repairs because of urine splash, when it's supposed to be out on patrol as 1/3 of the nuclear defense triad. Proxmire should've been flogged instead of revered.
