Re: My 12yr Old With Her New Truck

Looks like there's hope for that generation....I've noticed there's a few of them interested in old trucks. The other day I got a shout-out at a car wash function...they yelled 'I like your truck' as we drove by.

Very cool that she saved her cash and bought it herself. Looks like she has a very good idea about the importance of saving money...wish I'd have had that good an idea at that age. You guys are going to have a blast building that truck!

Keeps our hobby alive for the next generation, and keeps another truck out of the crusher. Very cool.

Re: My 12yr Old With Her New Truck

That's so Cool.

A few years ago, I did a 71 GMC project like that with my oldest son when he turned 15. We took it down to the last nut and bolt, and I let him do most of the work while I supervised and helped where necessary. It was, as the credit card commercials says "priceless".

He is grown and married now, and finished college with a mechanical engineering degree. (The old truck project is what sparked his interest in engineering). He still says that he learned more about engineering by rebuilding that old truck than the 4 years of college taught him.

Re: My 12yr Old With Her New Truck

That is great. My 15 year old daughter hates it when I pick her up in the truck (the '71 is a nice ride).

Now my 12 yr old son is a different story. He wants the '68 when he can drive (the '68 is a beater).

Go figger.

Re: My 12yr Old With Her New Truck

You should be proud that she wants to do this for a number of reasons. But mainly it is a reflection of your good parenting. She has learned the value of a dollar, saving for what you want, recycling and saving the planet and most importantly she is gonna be a truck girl for life. Especially after she invests the sweat equity in the rebuild.

My daughter who is 20 now does her own oil and transmission fluid changes, belts hoses and minor tune up work. Her 92 full size Blazer 4x4 (which she calls Ben) has over 200 thousand miles on it and is still doing well. We had the transmission redone about six months ago. She said it was acting funny and did not sound right. Took it to my buddies transmission shop, he could not hear anything and neither could I. Took it home and dropped the trans pan, the girl was right, it was losing the washers and bearings in the planetary and she could hear the difference in the way the trans sounded in gear.

Hey Bob. Great idea on the father/daughter build. Tell her I have a '69 250ci I'll sell her cheap! It's sitting in a rolling frame at this time with a four speed behind it. It turns over OK but I haven't had it started yet..... Come on down and take a look at it. I'll sell her the whole thing except for the 3.73 Posi for 50 bucks. That way you can sell parts off of it and get your money back....

p.s. bring a trailer with you

The frame is a 1/2 ton so you can go ahead and get it ready and just transfer the sheet metal over....

+2 on a old 250 6 banger!

I have been driving my beater truck around a lot lately, and after a little tuning and tweaking, I'm getting very good fuel mileage out of it. Although it is not a burner, it has adequate power.

Well at least SHE has good taste in year ... You know what Im talking bout Bob

Looks like a cool project, whats her plans for it
Gonna get a 700R4 ???
A/C ???

You may want to invest in a nice strong piece of pipe & weld on a new spike every year for her birthday, so when the guys start chasing her you have something to chase them with
