Either way, I'd like to see pictures of what you are selling.

The lever in that ebay link is for 73 and up. The 71 and older levers were chrome. That will definitely work, it just depends on how picky someone is with regards to originality.

Re: Will pay $700 for NOS 72 Cruise Control

Sorry guys, didn't know I was circumventing board rules by posting within a post since I can buy parts off the parts board without circumventing anything. I guess I see my error.

Liz (pure innocence), I'm not trying to get into a screaming match with you cause you hold all the cards, but sometimes people should be given the benefit of the doubt. In my honest opinion, I beleive this could have been handled in a different way that would have sent the same message. In other words, you sent me a private message. That should have been enough instead of a public humiliation for an honest mistake.

As for the discussion in this post, I think it has been very informative. My hats off to Dantip for making the proposal. I learned a lot about this topic and I appreciate it.

Re: Will pay $700 for NOS 72 Cruise Control

71-72 didn't use the lever, it used the under dash switch. It was not a factory option in 71 or 72, only dealer installed from a kit. I have the directions from that kit that were printed in 71 that shows the under dash switch.

Re: Will pay $700 for NOS 72 Cruise Control

chipflyer; The 71 DID in fact use the lever, as illustrated in the GM 1971 Chassis Service namual ( Per my previous post)...... Also, I believe the cruise control was a factory installed option as Section 15 (Cruisemaster) outlines the detailed operation. maintenance and adjustment of the cruise conttol.
It may have been that the dealer or aftermarket installed unit used an under dash switch.

Re: Will pay $700 for NOS 72 Cruise Control

GMC Jim, I believe some of the manuals had and re-used info from the previous year in some cases, illustration/drawings especially. I agree with chipflyer in that 70 was the last year for cruise as a factory option, starting in 71 it became dealer installed only with the cruise master switch under the dash.

Re: Will pay $700 for NOS 72 Cruise Control

I find it very difficult to believe that a large manufacturer such as GM would use info such as service data on a product that was not offered for that specific year. There would be no purpose for any manufacturer to include invalid info. As I recall, the owners manual also showed the cruise control actuated at the end of the directional signal lever. The 1971 Chevrolet Truck Service manual dedicates 6 pages of detailed illustrations, maintenance and adjustments for the Cruise Master speed control.
As a GM parts person in that era; I have never found where 6 pages of a service manual would be included for an accessory not offered as stated.

I have personally looked at several original 71-72 trucks that had the below dash switch. I had one of the original kits with that same switch and detailed installation info from GM dated 8/71.
Board member Rod, who knows about as much as anyone about the available options, covered this subject very well a couple of years ago. Read it here http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php?t=136867

I guess we will have to agree to disagree.

I believe it, I am finding errors all the time in manuals, and lots of board members have pointed these errors out.
