Re: Custom Bumpers
try to find a local custom steel fabrication shop around your location. i am a fabricator, and we have done several custom bumpers for various people and applications. it will probably cost a little more, but you will get exactly what you want, and you can always call it your design. or, if you can weld (and i don't use that term loosely), you can have them form the pieces for you to weld together. save a lot of money in labor

Re: Custom Bumpers
I picked up a used Ranch Hand from an individual that was designed for a Toyota Tundra for cheap....and made it fit my boy's 66.
Made the rear bumper out of 2"x6"x1/4". Its heavy!

Re: Custom Bumpers
Looks like a 2" receiver tube. Could be any implements. I have a vice on 2" tube for for the front of my jeep, to do u-joints on the trail. Also holds my gas powered blender... for trail margaritas!

Re: Custom Bumpers
You dont need to, Just gotta burn it in there good enough, Wouldnt matter if the welds were beautiful anyways on mine, there all ground down to make it look seamless.

Re: Custom Bumpers
Since this old thread was bumped...
29.99 for a Hitachi 5" angle grinder from Princess Auto or 19.99 for a Canadian Tire jobber unit Love some of the designs! Any one have pics of their rear winch mounts? I'd like to know how you have them mounted and such since I have a spare 10,000lbs unit kicking around... |

Re: Custom Bumpers
Thanks for the compliments guys. Ya the notches are for the high lift. I wouldn't do that again tho, they were more work than necesary. Next time I'll just weld on a chunk of angle iron as a lift brace.
The truck was rearend where it sits damaging the the lowers of the box and tailgate. Rather than replace the box sides I cut off the damage and incorporated the guards into the bumper and braced it to the frame. They turned out sturdier than I anticipated. The entire rear section is squared and subframed with the receiver then boxed around the frame with a custom crossmember support between. The two uprights for the front brush guard are single L shaped pieces of 3/8" that run down the inside of the frame rails 10"s. Overkill, but I'm proud of em for my first try.
