Ok guys, I talked with the owner last night and he still has the truck. He says it runs great and he has only had it for about 3 months. Bought it to restore, but since then, bought a Harley and changed his mind (or something like that). I really don't know much more about it and I'll do what I can to help out if anyone does buy it from the board. His home number is: 989-729-9185 and his name is Don. As far as the guys who pm'd me about the contact info, sorry, if it were mine to sell I would have contacted everyone in the proper order, but I'm just trying to pass on what looks to me to be a pretty good deal.

Nobody answered when I called. I'll try again after a bit.
I dont have a trailer to tow that home with. I've used uhaul trailer before, thats how I got my 68. But do you think I could just use a tow dolly instead? Thats gonna weigh a lot less, and Im sure would do better on MPG. |

Well its 5 hours home...thats a bit too far to be depending on an unknown truck. The gentleman said it was geared pretty well, and it was already humming pretty good by about 55 mph.

4:11 posi for sure, every single 6/4-speed I have ever owned (about 8 of them!) was a 4:11 posi truck so drive it home!! If AZ was 5 hours from this truck I'd already have it!

I have also talked to owner a couple of months back. If I remember right it is a 3-speed switched to the floor.

He said it was orginally a 3 speed on the column. And said he's driven it around a few months without problems. I got a 327/T400 combo that will go in till I can afford 6.0L/80E.
Hopefully be going up to get it on friday afternoon. |

Planned on picking up uhaul trailer up there, and glad I had left early cause I couldnt find the GD place. Took almost 2 hours to find the place, and get the billy running it to get me a trailer. Truck was easy to find, and Don(the owner) had some cool stuff with it. Old registrations from the original owner, truck warranty card, and the "protect-o-plate" card since there was a temporary shortage of 1967 chevrolet owner protection plan booklets. Truck came from Arkansas, like previously mentioned, purchased 9/8/66 from Lackey Motor Co., and the orginal owners name was Forest Hale. (sounds like the truck might have attended a clan meeting or two in its day) Thought some of that original stuff was pretty cool. Not a chance of him taking 1500, but did settle on $1800. It will need some floor work like jgvallie said, probably both rockers too. Right fender since it already had some mud in it and its bubbled/flaked up. It has the Chevrolet lettered tailgate, which I really really wanted. If not it was gonna get swapped. Thats one of my fav parts of these trucks. Made it about 30 minutes back, and I had to stop. Thats the first time I've towed something that heavy myself, and I was a little paranoid. I didnt wanna push it being tired. Was fine the whole way up, but figured it was good to stop before I got drowsy. I slept for about an hour at the first rest stop I came to. Some damn families must have been traveling together and parked next to me, I woke up to the loud voices of some older guys talking about the truck, lol. Was cool they were checking it out, but pissed that it woke me up. Tahoe's not geared for towing at all. 3.42's and 32" tall tires, its kinda a dog starting off. I didnt want it constaly shifting back and forth from OD and 3rd gear,good way to burn up OD on these weark 4L60E's, so I just ran 3rd gear the whole way home. 62 mph, and turning only like 2100 rpm. Thank God, no troubles out of my truck other than the one studder. Got home without any issues at all. Managed little over 12mpg towing too. I didnt grab my camera, and my phone doesnt have a flash on it. So no decent pics. I'll get a ton of them before I start tearing into it though. Oh, and my dropmember is already on order for it!!! I think that it was. Even if I have to replace the whole cab floor, it still should be less work than putting my two other trucks together for one shortbed. And, I still would need a fleetside bed.
I should be able to pull what I want off those trucks, part them out, and make most of that money back. Cant wait to get started on her. Bad thing is Im otta mod money now, hahaha. |

Are you going to repair the paint, or keep it as stock as possible?
IMO... I would install the dropmember and drive that sucker until the wheels fell off! My future plan includes rebuild the '72 as a custom classic, but then find a stock SWB, I6, and just drive it. Good luck with the project, and get us some pics asap! I see a build thread coming soon......

I dont plan on too much for a while other than the full suspension overhaul/ laying her totally out. New chevy lettering across the hood, new grill trim, and some different mirrors are on the agenda after its laying frame. Swap my 68 327/Th400 in it, then maybe rewire the truck. I dont have too many plans for it this year, as this is my 2nd project vehicle.
Goals for this spring is basically just to lay the frame, and drag the **** out of it while Im drivng the wheels off her. And making it dependable too. |
