Re: Here we go again
i think the truck has alot of rust covered by bondo and flat black paint. the bed not being straight means it more than likly has been hit from behind like 90% of these trucks have been. jmo

Re: Here we go again
Bring a flat magnent like a fridge magnent or something simular and a piece of paper and start sticking the magnent to the body so you can see what is metal and what isn't.
The peice of paper is so you don't damage the paint and makes pulling the magnent off easier. As well makes a great piece to make notes on. ![]() Last edited by kizer; 11-06-2008 at 06:15 PM. |

Re: Here we go again
Well, I went up to see it today and took some more pics.
The driver's side bed panel is a little shaky. Hard to tell if it's going to need an entire bedside or if the patches will do. It's got some rust in both rockers. Looks like the passenger side rocker and floor has been treated to a rivet-on patch over the top of the rust. I think there's one cab support on the driver's front that's a little rusty, but the others looked pretty good. There's another pic of the inner fender in the front drivers side that looks like it has a rust hole. The rear of the cab is dented on both sides, where it looks like it had been hit at some point. I didn't find any filler, but I didn't look in the driver's bedside. I assume that area does. Also, I got a pic of the VIN, and it looks like it's a GMC, not a Chevy. What do you guys think? On to the pics!

Re: Here we go again
Wow! It's a good thing that you didn't have to pay to have film developed for all these pics.
![]() It looks like a pretty big project. Alot of the problems are typical but you just have to decide if it's worth it to you. I'm sure there will be numerous responses forthcoming. Good luck either way!! |

I would go for it if it runs. looks like typical rust. body looks straighter than ours

Re: Here we go again
The GMC VIN plate must have been put on the cab, 'cause that's a chevy dash.
Overall, it's not too bad, like others have said, they're usually a lot worse, especially here in TN. |

Re: Here we go again
It runs pretty awesome. It has a recently rebuilt .030 over 350 that's pretty strong. I drove it up the road a bit and had no problems.
SIR, you don't think that's the one, huh? I can't argue that the rockers are pretty rusty underneath. Keep the opinions coming, for and against. I haven't decided one way or another yet.

Re: Here we go again
if it is a good runner, it should be worth $2500 around here, of course some would ask $4000
from what i see you can get panels to fix all the rust........

Re: Here we go again
I am going to have to agree with SIR here. I think 400.00 would be pushing it here. There isn't anything usable. Its all rusty. Keep looking. I looked at two yesterday that was a package deal. One SWB & one LWB that was in about the same shape as your looking at 300.00 for both. Only the LWB had a 230 6 with a 4-speed. That was a way better deal than what you are looking at.

Re: Here we go again
Well, I slept on it. I think I'm going to pass.
I'm a little burned out on my Chevelle because the time/money/whatever to really proceed on it. This one's going to require pretty much the same time/money/whatever. Thanks for the help, fellas. I'm 0 for 2 so far.

Re: Here we go again
Grilles get changed, hoods get changed, tailgates get changed, but very rarely does the dashboard get changed. This is the thing to look for without getting under vehicle.Gmc used a single hump over instrument panel while dash was flat on 64-66 chevys.

Re: Here we go again
Good choice, I would definately pass. It looks like a rusty pieced together primer bomb. I bet the rear axle and leaf springs were pirated out of another vehicle ( noticed parking brake cable disconnected).

Re: Here we go again
man, i wish i could find a truck like that around here for $500
you can't hardly touch a basket case for under $1000. or if you find a runner under a grand every panel on it is beat to piss, not to mention all the rust
