Re: Its a long way to the top, if you want to rock & roll
Update:
I am going to purchase a complete front suspension crossmember (minus sway bar) out of a 79 chevy 1/2 ton truck. Going Disk/5lug! From my previous post, Sway bars and 295's are still not on the truck. I'm going to hold onto the tires until I get some 5lug wheels for them. The sway bars are not going on until I am set on the height. I'm trying to keep this on a budget so any direction would be much appricated My new goal for ride hieght is to be dropped at 6" / 6", right now im at 2" / 3" I'm pretty sure it will swap over but I've never done anything like so I'm asking you guys. Will my current front 2" springs and shocks be reusable on the 79' suspension? To get the front down 6" I would like to keep the 2" spring but am thinking I would need to go with a 3", I would like to find some 3" spindles, or 3" lower control arms.. still researching options For the rear I am going to go with a C notch. I was looking at the coolride by ART but for $450 there has to be a less costly alternative. I will be at 2"/3" for a while, first things first I plan to get the new crossmember in and hook up the brakes Thanks for reading! Last edited by no_gas_65; 03-13-2009 at 12:29 AM. |

The shocks will work and I'm pretty sure the springs will too.

Re: Its a long way to the top, if you want to rock & roll
Glad you like them.
I can do the trim, I'm just having a hard time finding a decent quality side shot of a truck with trim. If you can find one, post it up and I'll give it a try. Short bed or long it doesn't matter I can extend it if needed. |

Re: Its a long way to the top, if you want to rock & roll
progress has slowed down on the project, update:
bought a set of 6lug Chrome Rallies w/ Police Caps have not installed the swaybars, I'm not going to install them since lowering the truck on bags will be a whole different beast took the truck to LAX Transmissions in Inglewood, CA. 700r installed a few months after the job was done, I noticed a small leak and the transmission was not shifting as smooth. parked the truck and let it stand in time. going to take her back to the shop to get the trans looked over ^^^^ im going to do this soon. im getting the fever to whip the chevy again thinking about going to a TH400 with a different rear end (highway gears)... any pros / cons to this since I have the driveshaft already done for the 700r, my 350small block is making short work of the transmission, maybe thats why it started to leak? It does not pull like the TH300 but it cruises on the freeway at much lower RPMs. I want to get a built 700r transmission to handle some horsepower, and rebuild the engine + rear end. I'll do more research here, but would appreciate any input conclusion: wish I had a house with a big garage, tools galore and a sexy lift. maybe when I secure a nice job and retire. until then I'll keep dreaming. i'll update when I get back from LAX Transmission take care yal. Re: Its a long way to the top, if you want to rock & roll
Are you sure that the TV cable is properly adjusted and that the TC lockup is connected and functioning? Those two are very critical to the correct operation and longevity of a 700R4. IMO most of the bad rep that the 700R4's get is simply from them not being installed and adjusted properly. There are some recent threads in the 'Engine and Drivetrain' section regarding the TV adjustment and TC lockup.

Re: Its a long way to the top, if you want to rock & roll
Exciting news.
My truck has been siting collecting character for some time now. I was doomed with technical difficulties and other lessons of in-experience. Alas, I called upon the help of a friendly neighbor. As it turns out, my truck had not been starting due to a loose connection into the firewall. This was a mind blowing easy repair. Also, got some new tools to buy. Pics later. My baby has not seen the road in months. That is about to change. I'm going to get her running this week. In respect to the rest of the build.. I'm going to re-wire the brake lights then I'm headed back to the chalkboard. I need to plan out the build and have everything on paper.. not in my head. It's amazing to see how much I've grown since taking ownership of my truck. As the title of this thread states.
