Re: honest opinions needed
I agree! I think that the rallys would be a better way to go. They'd look awesome on that truck. ...Joe

Re: honest opinions needed
Honestly, I think you should just give that truck to me so I can deal with the wheel situation...
But if not, then go with the rallys.

Re: honest opinions needed
Thanks for your help everyone, as stated, I really appreciate it.
It is kind of a tough decision, but I think I am going to stick with my Rally wheels for now, and search CL for some decent (inexpensive) used tires. This is a low buck build, mainly in an effort to finish my '73. What would be a good size tire for my 15x8 Rally's? The truck will be dropped 3/4 soon, if that matters. EDIT: I would really like to get some Wheel Vintique 17x8 Camaro/Vette style Rally wheels, rings, and centers...but new, the bill would be $1100! That also doesn not include tires or finishing the wheels. Definately not low buck.

Re: honest opinions needed
Jeff you know I gotta throw my opinion out here. Lets look at what your trying to accomplish. You want some cool factor, and you want it on the cheap. Nothing wrong with that so lets stay with that plan.
Forget the Centerlines! They aren't "old school" they are "old news" and they aren't that cheap. Forget the Rallies! They are cheap, but are too stock and don't up the cool factor to where you want it. Forget the Corvette Rallies! Please! They aren't cheap and that defeats your budget build plan. What would I suggest? I would go with a set of 15x7 (front) and 15x8 (rear) plain steel wheels. Ask around and probably get some for free. Scuff them up and paint them satin black, or satin chocolate brown. Find some swap meet trim rings, chrome lugnuts and chrome spider caps. TaDaa! You have cool and cheap. Of course you will need to find some skinny white wall tires to mount on them to complete the look, but again they can be had for cheap. Now spend those extra geeters on a some suspension parts and get her on the deck. Cut those front coils, splurge on spindles. Flip the rear, step back and admire.

Re: honest opinions needed
Here's EN*PN78's version of what I am talking about. Just needs some trim rings for a litlle bling on the cheap...

Re: honest opinions needed
I agree with Ken. I dig EN*PN78's wheel and tire combo. SCOTI also had a picture posted with a combo like this on his 74 that looked great.

Re: honest opinions needed
Ken, I like the bullet cap/plain steel wheel idea...and is something I have been tossing around. I mainly ruled it out because I prefer the spider caps actually (instead of the individual cones and lug covers), and nobody makes them in a 5 on 5 pattern. I did some digging last night on the HAMB, and found a company that sells spiders cheaper than anyone (and the HAMBers were happy with them), so I contacted them and it sounds like there will be some available VERY soon...perhaps within a few weeks. If that is the case, I might travel down that road.
I do like the look of EN*PN78's truck.

Re: honest opinions needed
Jeff- The only problem with Spiders has been the cost. They go for 180-200 a set. I didn't know that they weren't available in 5x5 pattern. I like them better than the bullet caps, but they are MUCH cheaper. I think the bullet caps with small trim rings would be sweet and give you a look that hasn't been done to death on our trucks.

Re: honest opinions needed
For the record, I am not a rally wheel hater. I just have a feel for what Jeff wants, and I don't think that's the answer.

I like the idea of painting the wagon centers. save money and could be done in no time for the price of some paint and tape. Might work until you can find a set of wheels you really like for a good price.

Re: honest opinions needed
The spider caps should be $140 for a set of 4...like I said, they were the cheapest.
I have their link at home, I'll post it this evening. Ken, you know me too well. Did you get my last PM regarding your truck? For the record, wagon wheels are my absolute least favorite wheel on the market...I can't wait to lose them. I like Rally wheels, but they are all over the place...kind of like TT2's and Coys. I would only run them for the cost factor if I did. EDIT: I also found these on CL, 2 15x8 and 2 15x10. These are alum American Racing Daisy wheels...5 on 5. Obviously the centers were painted, but these look neat too...but perhaps dated as well.

Re: honest opinions needed
What's with everyone being stuck on rallyes in here? If anything is dated, it's rallye wheels!
He's obviously looking for something aftermarket. Those 17s look like a great size. Those wheels are definitely from the 80s, and I see nothing wrong with that being that your truck is from the same period. If you can get them for $500, do it. But make sure you lower your truck at the same time as you putting the rims on.

Re: honest opinions needed
I wouldn't worry about dated, I mean this is a 73 after all. I actually like dated too, not so fond of modern, but that's just me. I ran those kind of wheels on my truck because it came with them, they were ok, they looked cool, just not my style, they actually looked "too" modern lol. It sounds like you don't want them for the long run anyway so you are doing the right thing just fixing up what you already have. No point in buying something you will plan to replace. Your truck looks awesome, and what's under the hood doesn't affect the outside looks! I wish I could find one like yours around here!

Re: honest opinions needed
I like how 17" wheels look on these trucks, but I'm not sure how much I like those wheels that you are looking at. I have 17" Centerlines on my '73 and Rallys in the garage. I'm eventually going with the rallys and T/A's. If I were you, I would do the rallys(the daisies are cool too!!).
Here's a pic of my 17's.

Re: honest opinions needed
How much for the AR Daisy wheels? Those might look cool if the price is right. Have to give em a blasting and go with satin charcoal or satin black centers.
