Re: Need help picking a daily driver......

I voted for the 72 blazer before I looked at the pics. My reasoning is that you already have a truck and a burb, so pass on those. Then you said you wanted something to tinker with, which means the 72 because it needs some TLC. After looking at the pics, I really like the 71, but still would choose the 72 because of the reasons stated above.

With a family of 4, the SWB would be hard to justify....The 72 probably fits best of the 4. It definitely scores some extra point for the auto, a/c, 8 track and especially the shag on the dash......

I agree. If I didn't already have one, this would have been a pretty easy decision.

I agree. There's a 70 on base that has all the options as the 72, but it is decked out like the 71, the only problem is, they're asking $20K for it. I'm sure they have more in it than that, it looks like they have done a ground up on it, but then I would be hard pressed to make a daily driver out of it.....back to the 72, .

I would go with the 71 blazer . It lookes to be in good shape . You have room for family and you can always add air . You did say you needed somthing to do.

I think the`71 is the best backcountry/roundtown desert truck.Just plain simple, never run hot.Either Blazer would be best because of going topless out there.Get a soft top and you can keep the sun off with the sides open.Your kids will love it.I had one when my kids were younger. You`ll want a family cage for it.
Leave the Suburban for me.Man,that thing is nice!

'70 SWB definately! I've fit four people in an '87 that I had. It was tight, but it was a weekend cruiser. Its not everyday that I had four in it.

Re: Need help picking a daily driver......

Well... I'm trying to think of this as for your needs, and what fits the best for you.

Considering:

-Family with kids that won't all fit in the pickup
-A wife that isn't crazy about you buying any of them
-A wife that will be even more upset if you buy a project
-The area you live in and the weather you have there (or more importantly, don't)
-ease of resale if you need to sell it
-originality and unhacked appearance

The '71 Blazer is the only choice. Spend a weekend and a grand putting air on it, and you are done. That will leave you more time for the whole fam to enjoy it, and you

I am thinking the BURB all the way.
Looks cool as H#$%, and it needs YOU to make it have P/S.
you got a DD, and a tinker project. I am SURE you could make it better!!!!
either of the Blazers would be 2nd choice

Believe it or not, I didn't vote Blazer, I voted for the Shorty.
However I did not scroll down to the pic's before I voted. It
still remains the same (My vote) after I saw their prices

Re: Need help picking a daily driver......

Here's how i would go.
  • 1 71 blazer, still could use some work, like a/c, original rims, unless you don't want to spend that much.
  • 2 72 blazer, needs some good tlc. If ya really need something to do and save money to fix it.
  • 3 burb, which is really awesome looking. But since ya already have an awesome looking one, probably not.
  • 4 truck, not enough room for 4. but still would be nice to have and a good project.
but you can always resale it to pay for the other projects.

Personally I love that '71 it's a real beauty, it even has the original upholstery. And with that 4-speed you can do some very serious weekend rock crawling should you choose to do so.
I know the non-A/C is a negative but you're living in the high desert of NM not the sweltering humidity of Florida. Even on a hot day you can catch a nice breeze with the 2-65 A/C out here in the western US.

Re: Need help picking a daily driver......

I'm with Jeffspower - you need to think of practicality, a little. If the pickup was just for you, or the kids were out of the house, go with that. But with the kids and wife, one of the Blazers is the way to go.

Re: Need help picking a daily driver......

The '71 would be a great ride, but my vote has to go to the SWB. Any rust issues on this thing? Maybe we could work something out with Leon... you get the LWB, and you bring the SWB to MO.

What are the specs on the SWB?

Re: Need help picking a daily driver......

You are in NM and headed back south? So 4 wheel drive might not be important. Want to tinker? Something old to drive? My inclination would be the 70 SWB. It has room for improvement, more so than others. Besides, you have a Burb and 2 crew cabs. You could use a real truck...

i'm digging the 72 blazer, you already have a truck and a burb. also it is a 4x4 which you don't have and could use in NM. i like the options and the special paint, plus looks like it wouldn't be too nice to use. just my .02

Re: Need help picking a daily driver......

I voted before I looked at the pictures (my bad), and I voted for the "Shop truck" cause you aint got one of them either. After looking at the 72 blazer - I'm not sure! That thing is really nice and If you and your family are really going to get out and see NM then it is really a NO brainer!

If you are looking to PIMP out a lil' shop truck to run back and forth to work in, have a truck bed to throw stuff in then the shorty is the way to go. I can see it now "Hart Rods" on the door sides all scuffed up, and Patina looking!

Family+back country cruisin' = Blaz

You+work, back and forth = Shorty

Hey where is the Duramax in this whole thing?

Good luck, and I'll be sitting on the edge of my seat in the mean time!
