here's mine 26x26 with 10' walls & 2 10x8 o/h doors ug 100 amp power/phone r40 in the attic r20 in the walls doors are r16 with electric heat.

as said above there is no such thing as too big ,but if cost is a factor as it is for most of us build with the thought in mind that you may want to add on to it in the future and diffinently think about attic space or other means of storage. I built mine 30x40 with 8x40 attic space and when I first finished it there was way more room than I needed now I'm thinking of adding a 16x30 enclosed lean to on the back and the amount of junk I own has tripled, and when you start tearing a truck apart there is no such thing as enough room heres a couple of not so great pics

Mine is 30' x 40' still too small when you get a donor vehicle in one door and the project. It never helps when your wife takes over the garage to park the OTHER vehicle in there. I am trying to talk her into letting me build a bigger garage with the new house. I am thinking 40 x 60 with a loft and office and a compressor room. The one I am in now only has a partial concrete floor so to pull an engine it takes the entire concrete portion Next one will have heated concrete floors (midwest winters on concrete sucks)

My garage is 32' wide x 28' deep (3 car) I have a 9' single door and a 16' double door. A wider double door would be nicer as well as a few feet wider.

The depth is nice as I have my project truck on the single side and room to work in front of it even with my workbench.

My ceilings are ~11 1/2' tall. In the front I built some large storage platforms. They're about 7 1/2 feet up in the air. One is 4'x8' and the other is 4'x12' and provide me a lot of storage for parts, tires, etc.

Bigger is better!

gosh....i love these garages...i appreciate all the ideas...ive decided im not doing 20x20 after all...i dont have a massive amount of space...so im thinking of maybe a 22x30 or 24x28....not sure yet....but i enjoy all these pics....keep them coming..

At my place I have a "shed" that is 30x32. It is too small. In fact I'm currently working on plans to punch the back out 24 more feet which will result in a 30x56 building. The new 24 feet will have a heated, concrete slab. For the next 10 or so years I'm leaving a wall up between the current and future spaces. That wall will be insulated as will the rest of the new shop.

The way life is now the only time I have to work on my projects is in the winter but in the winter it is too cold to work on them. I'm hoping my solution of building a heated space will solve that problem. We'll see.

My daily drivers are in an attached 24x28 garage. That space isn't heated but it is insulated so it stays warmer in there than in the shed.

20x20 is way too small. Even for a space to park a pair of daily drivers that is tight. I'd start with 24x24 like others have suggested and place the structure where it is out of the way so when you realize that is too small you can build a larger building or add on to the original one.

When my garage burned down 10 years ago, my realator told me to build the biggest garage that would fit on my lot. For resale, If the guy doesn't like the house no amount of kitchen ect is going to get him to buy it.

I live in the city, so I don't have a back yard anymore 15x15 patio with one 120 feet oak tree. My garage is 26x24 and its too small

Earlier this spring I took an auto restoration class at the local vo-tech high school adult class. The instructor said that the amount of shop floor you need to do a restoration is the square foot print of the vehicle times 6. For my truck that comes out to around 612 sq/ft. My garage is 30w x 25d attached to the house. Its 750 sq/ft., just barely enough. That doesn't include the lawn mower, rotor tiller, snow blower, motorcycle, . . . Anyone want to buy a motorcycle?

I hate you all! I have a single prefabricated concrete UK size garage, no way is my truck or indeed any car going in it although I did have a dismantled Triumph Spitfire in there for a while. Next house I'm aiming for either a barn or building a big double garage with workshop extension and maybe a covered porch so I can sit out with a cold beer in a rocker and pretend I'm over there (whilst the rain drums on the roof and I freeze my ass off!)

I have a 30ft deep by 50ft wide 4 stall, and a 16X16 shed for crap, and I still wish I had more space. Build as big as you legally can, the cost is not that much more for a bigger building compared to a smaller one, within reason.

not mine but this is my moms she just had built.for reference that horse trailer is round 36 ft long and when its parked in there theres 3ft on each end to walk around.i will take picz of mine this weekend.

Mine started as 30x32.
Later added a half width, (15foot wide x 8ft long), lean to type "stall" on the front, then yet again added another 8ft on the back.


If I ever get to build another one I'm gonna use the corners of the property for the corner posts of the building....

If I had my choice I would have done 30x30. The 24 depth is just too tight for some of today's longer vehicles.

I am trying to decide what fuel tank to put in the rear of my truck and saw the picture of your truck here. If you don't mind me asking, what tank did you end up using?

It's a bolt together building I got from Mueller. They have various sizes that they sell in kits. I just had some dude that puts up metal buildings put it together for me. My neighbor has the same building and he put it up himself ,with my help. Boy was it a real PITA.

I have a 20x20 at the house, and it sucks! I meen I am gratfull that I have a wam spot to work on those winter nights, but only one at a time, and a long bed has to touch the back wall to close the door. Go as big as you can afford.
