Re: Burning oil
OK, now we are getting someplace, we got numbers, LOL. Comp on #1 is to low. Next is a dry and then wet compression test on #1. You have the dry number, 80 psi. Now squirt a little oil into the cylinder and recheck it, it will go up. If it goes up to near the others, IE 160 psi, the rings are bad, if it doesn't, it's valves. My bet is rings because it's puffing out the breather. Let us know, jim

Re: Burning oil
Hey Guys! Thanks for all the suggestions! I used the seafoam and it definetly did something! not sure if it was good tho. It was puffing some serious carbon out of there. I am running 10w-40 in it now and she still smokes. it fouled a plug in the number 1 cyl so i did a compression test. All the cylinders are around 160psi except the #1, is at 80psi. Also when i take of the oil cap with it running, it puffs like a locamotive. is that normal? Thanks!!!!

Re: Burning oil
I just remembered something from when I worked for Chevy. A service bullitin came down the line warning us not to use any oils with 40 as a viscosity like 10-40 or 15-40 ect is gasoline engines. Something about causing the rings to sieze in the ring grooves in the pistons. I don't remember the years in question but it had to be before 1990. I'm not sure now what caused this but I'm just passing along the info. jim
