from one of the vins its a 68' 3/4ton but there's no telling what it is other than i know its 3/4 ton - the cab is a 72' and I used that for the vin for the title... I got alot done today took the seats out, the radio out, the carpet out, the heater out, and most of the wiring... not impressed with the metal work to the floor board gonna take the gas tank out and get the metal work fixed as well as put in the 4x4 shifter I would post pic's except my internet got knocked out by an ice storm, forgot it when I came over to my buddy's place, and my internet wont be back for a while.

Thanx for the comment, I like my vehicles to be flawless and some of the work done to this truck makes me cry inside and glad that I bought it.... the truck deserves better and now for the pictures of what I'm talking about ~

first off it is expensive. a good pump and box will handle 36's. Rock ram is awesome if your going with big meats and doin some hard core rock wheelin.
It does take the stress off the frame though. once you get too far in you never get back out. You really need to decide what you are going to want to use your truck for. if you new ram assist, unless you've got a big bank account to throw at it, you won't be driving it much anytime soon. that truck is pretty awesome to start. you need to get it road worthy and drive it and hang out here and you will figure out what mods to make in what order. first up before rock ram you will definitely need to upgrade your front axle. a 60 would be great a 44 will work. you can upgrade the 44 as you go. 60's are hard to get (for me anyway) and cost big $$$$$$. stock parts are relatively cheap for these trucks so use stock new or even used parts and see what you break. lots of guys play for a long time with out changing much more than axle shafts, hubs, and auto trannys. oh ya take extra u joints for the 44.have fun man it is a cool truck. I'm gonna bet the first thing to go on your rig is the 10 bolt up front. replace the power steering with stock parts and don't forget to reinforce the frame at the steering box.
you can check the frame vin. it is on the top drivers side frame rail below the brake master cylinder where the frame is flat. usually has to be cleaned up to be found. kind of looks like it may be a 73-87 frame but I am not sure of that at all.Hard to tell from that one pic.

thats exactly what I need to hear, I get a little carried away with it lol so I should focus on stuff like relocating the gas tank, getting a back bumper, paint and line the bed, and axles... I'm gonna try for the dana 60's if I can find'em, what price range should I be looking at and where's a good place to start looking not to many junk yards around here and they never seem to want to help me out and especially won't let me look around/ the overalln goal of the truck is to be a mudder but also somewhat nice looking for hometown parades, as well as light trailing like in my backyard in the woods...

a 60 is going to be hard to find and will cost about 800 to 1000. I bought a 3/4 44 with the matching 14 bolt with a gov lock for 200 bucks both had been recently serviced with new brakes and such before the donor truck died. I would look for something like that rather than spending the money on the 60. unless you can find one ready to bolt in for under $800. you are going to have to be rippin pretty hard to need a 60 (mud is easier than rock on these things) . there is also the issues of gearing, power(engine wise). and tires and wheels. I would definitely do the things you listed first and then see what kind of money you have left. run that 10 till it spits out parts then move on to something else. You might be surprised what it can take. I have tried to break them (without getting seriously retarded) and failed. once you add a locker that is when things usually go down hill. then your wheelin got the wheels turned in low and you have physics working against you and SNAP!!

Anyway get that thing wired up with the new dash and post some pics. The painless kit is a good investment.

check craigslist in your area for parts. It is a great resource.

Sounds like the way to go, the dash is on its way now and I get off work tonight so I can finally start tearing into it again first thing tomorrow, if you know of any forums with pictures of the gas tank conversion to the back send the links my way, I think I want to go with the bed fill

Updates! The Dash from J&J Engineering Inc. is IN!!! As well as went and bought some gauges for it, doing some metal work sometime this week and I need someone's help on where to cut and mount the 4x4 shifter in my 2wheel drive cab =p Anyone???

Doug, the easiest way is to find a high hump and bolt it in. Should not be too hard to find. Trucks with turbo 400 and sm465 transmissions have them. I think all 4x4's have bolt in humps. all you have to do then is cut along the lines that are already in the cab. If anyone sees any errors please point them out. I have a hump out side that I can take a picture of. Your truck would have come with the bolt in hump in its present config. It will look stock if you do it that way. I should not be to hard to find a hump. Someone round here must have a few.
