Re: More MN rust

Good to know! Thanks again Eric.

Here's some pics after tonight. Big day of stripping stuff down, greasing chassis parts, new wheel bearings, and lots of sanding. Got to this little problem tho. It's not rotted through but might as well be. It's only a $500 beater so I don't want to go to crazy but any opinions are appreciated.

The plastic black fins behind the stainless were pretty chunked so got thos out and started with playing with razor wire to fill the gaps (scaled down and not sharp ofcourse) with some real bullets attatched to the stock hub caps just until I find proper rolling stock. Checking into getting MN plates reading STOLEN

Re: More MN rust

Here's tonights progress. One coil cut for what appears to be a 2.5" drop but I haven't drove it yet to settle it all the way. Welded the gas door, side emblems and some trim holes up. Pretty happy with the whole experiences working with grandpa just like when I was knee high.

Re: More MN rust

Found some sweet seats on craigs today. Grey leather with no rips, integrated seatbelts, 6 way power adjust with 4 driver memories plus bonus options I haven't tapped into yet. For $50 delivered I'm really loving the seats so far.

Re: More MN rust

Any chance of moving this thread to Projects? Thanks!

Here's a couple updates. The doors almost sucked the wind out of this project but there coming along now. Truck should be in primer in a week or two. I work with only one arm and grandpa isn't running at warp speed these days but it's been fun regardless.

Here's some of todays updates:

Carb rebiuld
front breaks 100% done
mounted hula girl between seats ( only fat chick allowed to ride )
and last but not least MORE body work. Wish it could be called body fun but oh well. I'm still happy doing it.

Almost in primer! Lots left to do but it's been fun so far.

I'm not running a rear bumper and haven't found a cheap lighted bracket yet. Any suggestions? lol. Is anyone reading this even?

Re: More MN rust

What a blast! This truck is sooo sound compaired to the pope mobile. Drives like a dream and only $600 invested total. Had one little snag a couple days ago tho. The rookie mechanic skills I've managed to pull out of my ass led me to install the inner wheel bearing backwards and for some dumb reason had only 4 lug nuts finger tight and a hub cap hiding this. Offcourse a little test drive leads me around my neighborhood and I lost a wheel doing 15 or so. Pretty fun considering no one got hurt and only damage was to a drum.

All fixed now!

So that was your wheel I saw go rolling by the other day.
My wife and kids and I were vacationing up on the Norwegian Riveria last week. [That would be the North Shore of Lake Superior for all you folks not familiar with where Duluth is ]

Re: More MN rust

You were at one of our beautiful assets but I live on the other side of town. Ended up being a pop fly to center field at a local baseball field. Seniors were playing but there instincts are still sharp. They had that tire wrestled down in no time.

So is there ever a day where "locals" try to meet? I'd love to show off my junk one I insure it

Finally on the road! had some little snags but that was expected. Still haven't finished the roof, rear wheel wells, and some surface rust on the bottom of the box.

Looks great so far. Sorry about the wheel, had that happen on a single axle travel trailer once, (rest in peace old home). Heed the warning from toomuchstuff, that Rustoleum can really cloud your mind, bad when fixing things you ride in at freeway speeds. Mind melds are great with old men also, you can really learn a lot from them. Tell gramps how much you appriciate the teaching. Jim

Just saying thanks for the forum support, the locals that gave me a hand, and Toomuchstuff. I've put on over 800 miles since purchasing this spring and have a hard time putting it back in the garage. I'll update as soon as I do

Re: More MN rust

Thanks for the offer Eric. I've been trying to streighten this 71-72 one I got but without heat it's combing along very very very slow. Someone stole my cool hide away front plate so a bumper should prob go on if atleast for winter. I'll stop by your area once funds and help are available. I was gonna come for that crossmember but it's probably better with help and springs that aren't out of a 4cyl jeep to haul with
