Either mirrors or spotlights. I leaning towards mirrors.

Re: Spotlight Pic - Installed and In Action
oldblue,
thirdstreet may be right, but since there is 3 seperate hole, I would think it's for a spotlight. you will have 2 smaller holes for mounting bracket, then 1 larger central hole for the spotlight control tube. if the larger hole is completely through the "A" pillar, I'm betting it's for a spotlight. so find yourself a spotlight assembly and 1. cover up the hole that's allowing water to enter, and 2. have some tasty chrome hanging there!

Here's a couple of pictures of mine. I think the only thing I am missing is the bulb retaining ring. The screw is there. It is in pretty nice shape. I put it together and it seems to work OK... I took it off of a '70 Chevy wrecker over at the salvage yard a year or so ago.

Re: Spotlight Pic - Installed and In Action
Leon,
It does look all there and it does have the correct 202 mounting bracket. give me a couple of days to look through my restoration leftovers. I can probably get you everthing except the lense...... then again, I may have one of those too!

Re: Spotlight Pic - Installed and In Action
Hi Doug, that spotlight looks great on your ride and you get my vote for installing the other side too, I like'em in pairs which is why I have kept that nos set around for so long. So the instructions, drill template and bushing worked out for you, what did you end up using for a drill bit? Mel
I just found an nos unity GM (in red) emblem plate for the top of the spot lamp housing, while I was digging thru some boxes of misc. parts at a recent swap meet. I thought that I recognized it so I went ahead and bought it and it ended up being what I thought it was. |

Re: Spotlight Pic - Installed and In Action
Mel,
the instructions, drilling template, and the bushing was spot on! I used a .50" dia bit to drill through the "A" pillar. actually, it wasn't that hard to do..... good find with GM crest. Unity sells the repops for $16, but they are a bit different than the original. again, thanks for the kit you made up! it made the install MUCH easier!!! Leon, the lamp is a sealed unit. there will be two brass nuts (+ and -) on the rear of the bulb. like I said, hold off buying anything until I can check my "stuff".

Re: Spotlight Pic - Installed and In Action
Cool, I have a spotlight I have been saving for years just waiting to be installed. Do you have a pic of the light handle going through the A-Pillar from the inside?

Re: Spotlight Pic - Installed and In Action
There is no flange or escucheon plate on the inside? Here all these years I thought I was missing a piece of my light, guess I had better find a drilling template and install it.

Re: Spotlight Pic - Installed and In Action
nope, no "cover plate" for the inside. would have been a beeter design, but I guess Unity thought not. contact Mel (Classic Bowties) for a copy of the instructions, drill template, and drill bushng. a bargain @ $15!!
I covered the exposed interior shaft with a piece of black vacuum tubing, then butted the lock collar against it for a cleaner look. I also have, but not installed, a locking tab that screws to the "A" pillar. I have only seen this piece on a few spotlights, and Unity does not repop them.

Re: Spotlight Pic - Installed and In Action
not a backing plate really. just a .75" diameter x .38" wide retaining ring (with a set screw) that pushes the rubber grommet against the "A" pillar.

Re: Spotlight Pic - Installed and In Action
Oh OK on the retaining ring. What does Mel's drill bushing do for the mounting process?

[QUOTE=tcb-1;3024770]yeah the seat cover is a bit outrageous, but it's better than what's underneath! barf.
That is a nice stepper! Im not a fan of 69-70 front grills, but yours got something special.... Seat cover is not all that bad. Where did u get your steering wheel? Last edited by Puropedo; 12-16-2008 at 01:02 AM. |

the kit that Mel has contains a drill bushing that temporarily mounts inside the outside bracket. then, you will insert a .50" dia drill bit and drill through the "A" pillar. the copy of the original instructions are also included in the kit and makes much more sense than my rambling! Puropedo, I have always LOVED the old school bomb look! so I had to roll the Mexican blanket and the spotlight!
