Re: 68 C-10. Project 1st Timer

OK guys, it's been a minute since I've posted any pics or progress. Hopefully I'll get to post some this weekend. I've since been to the Pull A Part yard where I met my friend and board member djracer, and found a cherry 68. I pulled a nice inner fender passenger fender. I also pulled cherry front fenders off of both sides. I also finally got pics of the fleetside bed my buddy has that I am swapping my stepside bed for. Check it out down below. It's very workable and I'll go pull it soon. If you have any concerns on this bed, let me know. I promise to post pics of everything else that I've acquired as well. Thanks guys!

Re: 68 C-10. Project 1st Timer

I have to give a shout out to 72shadetree on the diecast I just received from him. Super guy, ships really fast. I bought some diecast from him for some additional motivation.

It was still there a week ago when I pulled those fenders. It seems to be in good shape, with no dents or anything. It has a bed liner, so I don't know what's under it as far as rust is concerned, but someone really took care of that truck. I'd gamble on the bed personally.

Re: 68 C-10. Project 1st Timer

It's been awhile, but I have some updates on my truck and photos. I found a sweet engine from another board member that he was gonna sell to me but he had to build another first. Money burned a hole in my hand, so I bought a 79 chevy longbed that had a good motor and tranny (350/350 combo). The bed has been removed from my truck and the engine, as well as the engine and tranny from the donor truck. I'll get some stuff cleaned up, stuff in the other motor after some mods and away we go! Enjoy the pics and by the way, for the 79 type guys, truck body for sale, includes ac, new rear end, radiator, ps, and all. $300 bucks.

Re: 68 C-10. Project 1st Timer

I haven't posted pics in a long time, screwed up the first posting, but I posted a pic of my old step bed on a trailer and the donor truck that I got the motor and tranny out of. More pics to follow.

my replacement motor, a 350/350 combo from a 79 long bed

Re: 68 C-10. Project 1st Timer

I guess once I post pics of the same things over and over I'll get the hang of it!

Picked up a couple of nice fenders and steering column at a parts yard--the ones I told you about a couple of months ago with no pics! Trying to make progress...

Re: 68 C-10. Project 1st Timer

It's been awhile again, but I finally got the motor and tranny in my truck from the donor 79. Runs great, looks great. I plan on getting some billet parts to dress up the motor and I saw some nice plug wires featured on the Two Guys Garage tv show on the Speed Network that I'll get as well. Now the work begins thank to lots of motivation and instruction from the talented guys on this site. I'll take the cab from the frame, and the remaining front cap and start work on the frame, suspension, brakes, and stance. Any advice on anything will be needed, especially the frame treatment with the black stuff that everyone spreads on the frames to protect against rust. I'll post pics. Thanks for the motivation guys!

Talking Re: 68 C-10. Project 1st Timer

Thanks alot guys. I went to Pull A Part today and scored the following from a 68 sb ss:
Brake booster, MC, Prop valve, igniton switch with key, and set of very decent Sony 3 way 6x9 speakers that'll match my Sony 10" woofers.
Total Cost: $40.

Re: 68 C-10. Project 1st Timer

Thanks Crimespree, I'll give you a call.....and probably a visit. I thought I had a decent short fleet bed that I was swapping my short step bed for, but the fleet I was swapping for I think is too rough to salvage. If you hear of a short fleet bed, give me a holler...I have a short step bed with an extra drivers fender w/o the spare tire dimple that I'm doing nothing with--and won't use. If all fails I'll buy a long fleet bed and cut it to size.
