Re: rear locker??
I have taken 14 bolt apart and added frictions and shims to tighten it up. When I did so I removed the flyweight and governor mechanism. Now it acts like a locker on low traction surfaces. It will still slip a little in corners but tightens up pretty good on dirt. Enough to keep me happy. It behaves a lot like a Detroit locker off road.

Re: rear locker??
If the snapping and popping you describe, could it also be a clicking type noise? You may have a no-spin aka Detroit locker. The noise is the engagement teeth racheting past each other. Supposedly the locker out of a 14 bolt will interchange with the ones in the Eaton. The difference is the inner axle splines. The Eaton has less splines (17 or 19 I believe) and the 14 bolt has 30 if I remember correctly.

Re: rear locker??
Yessir, No-Spin (Detroit). You can tell by looking through the holes in the carrier...if you just saw gear teeth, it would be an open diff (you'd be seeing the spider gears). But there is just smooth metal, which means locker. Congrats
