Re: project '49 green machine Im young and dumb
ok well i havent been on here in awhile cause im back in college and too far away to work on the truck...The engine i decided to go with is a newly rebuilt pontiac 455 that i picked up for $550. What would be a good manual transmission to hook up to that engine that wouldnt be too expensive but would hold up to the 476 horsepower that it makes???

Re: project '49 green machine Im young and dumb
I don't think you can put "inexpensive" and BOP four speed together in the same sentence. What you want to look for is a Muncie that came in the
early 70's GTO's, GS or 442's. Because there were not as many of them made and they have a different bolt pattern than the Chevy models you will pay a premium price for it. An alternative would be to look at Lakewood, Transdapt or someone similar and get an aftermarket bellhousing with BOP engine and Chevy tranny bolt patterns. >>>EDIT - I did a quick search on line and could not find an adaptor, but Wilcap says they will make a custom one <<< Then your search starts for a GM tranny. Or just bite the bullet and got aftermarket with a new Muncie, Richmond, etc. I've been trying to luck into an inexpensive Muncie for my 64 Chevelle for years and still have not found one.
