That door is the norm here. I think the salt spray makes its way down there with the water, and coars the metal. I probably has nothing to protect it (not even paint) so it only takes a little bit to keep it going every winter. Since it is coming from the inside out, you don't even know it untill it is way too late. I see many in wrecking yeards like this. I opened one the other day...a pastel blue '69 step side 1/2 ton...the door came off becouse I yanked too hard. This was a new arival too. I looked at it, and you could tell the last owner would enter from the passenger side and slide all the way over.
The rust belt is pretty depressing after 7 years in the south.
