At a minimum, a decent mild street or RV cam with a better carb and intake and dual exhaust would wake it up. To get a whole lot more you'd have to change the heads, and Vortecs can be done reasonably. I bought a set of used Vortecs at junk yard for $200, and had them magnfluxed, cleaned and valve job (including 3 guides) for $160. I'm getting ready to use them for a 350 to put in my red '69.

Re: Is my truck a 50th?

Here is my pickup . Are all 68 with this color scheme the 50th anniversary? I am wondering if mine 68 c20 is one also. It is gold and white from factory as well as showing paint code endding 551 ivory/gold on glove box door. It has been repainted. also lists No spin differential on sticker and has a No spin decal on door. Truck had emblems at top edge of doors but holes have been welded as seen from inside. I am considering converting to shortbed 1/2 ton and lowering it.

v

that is going in the wrong direction. The valves and ports are too small for the 327 to breathe properly. Those heads will work with a 283 or 265 though.

A stock set of Vortec heads is said to be worth 20 hp out of the box without other modifications to the engine.
Around here a brand new set from Gilbert Chevrolet http://gilbertautoparts.com/Cylinder_Heads/Vortec.cfm run about the same as buying a junk yard pair and having the valves done. They are about a two and a half hr drive from me though but any GM performance dealer shoud be able to get you a competative price. They do require a new intake that matches them as the older intakes won't bolt up.

Re: Is my truck a 50th?

Yes those should be the same heads. In this area I've been asked about 160.00 plus the core for rebuilt heads so the 289+change from Summit isn't a bad deal for brand new heads. Armed with the cyl head pn I'd first walk into my local Chevrolet dealers parts counter and see what a set over the counter would cost and then hit them with print outs of the Summit and other online prices if their prices seem out of line.
In most parts of the country there dealers who are listed as performance dealers and tend to be more friendly towards guys buying GM performance parts.
