Re: baby doll jr. stripped at last

ok my question is what is this suspension off, because i know it isnt stock. also it looks like the front spring hanger had been narrowed, any ideas? also what does the stock 4x4 cross member look like because this one either needs to be cleaned up or replaced.

Re: baby doll jr. stripped at last

That crossmember is from a 2wd. it's what holds the trailing arms in place. looks like someone converted a 2wd to a 4wd, and instead of removing the crossmember, just cut up.

Its not that we are not interested in your truck, because that is why we are all here. Its just that speaking for myself, some of have to work in confined or poorly lit space. So most of us dream of having the ultimate work shop as much as the ultimate truck. So we will all be watching the truck rebuild and will appreciate the results.

Nice spread! Looks like you need a new business of restoring old vehicles. Plenty of place. Nice truck with fast work.

Re: baby doll jr. stripped at last

I've been lurking around here for a while myself. I've been considering reviving an old 4x4 project. Anyway my background is mostly in Camaros, but maybe I can help a little. The rear spring hanger looks like the ones found on 73-87 trucks (if I remember correctly, they extend farther down from the frame than the 67-72). I seem to remember reading that the 4x4 frames are a little narrower in the rear than the 2x4 frames (someone please correct me if I am wrong). If that is true, that might account for the modifed front hanger since your frame is a 2x4. If you haven't already done so, to narrow your search down farther, try looking for cast numbers, date stamps, and vin stampings on the transmission, transfer case, axles and engine. It is likely or atleast possible that atleast the 4x4 specific parts came from the same donor.

Being the great source of information this site is, I'm sure someone else with more experience with these trucks will be able to provide more info.

Good luck... I'll be watching.

Re: baby doll jr. stripped at last

thanks rob69rsss, i will look into that. and i didnt get alot done today, only a little. a farmer hit one of our gates, so i had to do a lil welding on it. then my auto hood broke, really pissed me off! went to the welding shop says it it will cost 250 dollars to replace the lens, so it looks like i gotta find a new hood. o well

Re: baby doll jr. stripped at last

any preferences on an auto darkening hood, because i weld even crappier without one, now it looks like i will be spending the money i was saving for a tubing bender on an new helmet, but thats life i guess, but yea any helmet ideas would rock

Re: baby doll jr. stripped at last

That would be a sweet place for a wedding. I like the look of the timber a lot better than a metal shop. How is the Cypress for maintenance?

Re: baby doll jr. stripped at last

there is no maintanance, we want it to look weathered , so its just plane wook no coatings of anything but the great thing is is that if we wanted to like clear coat it or seal it all we would have to do is power wash it, then it looks like new wood. we went wit galvanized nails b/c after like 20 or 30 years with regular nails the heads will start to pop off. all the wood was cut a mill a couple miles from our farm.
